Minnie Bachmann*
Nov. 22, 1877 – Feb. 3, 1949

Minnie M. Bachmann, 427 Parkway, died at 10 p.m. Thursday after a lengthy illness.

She is survived by her husband, Albert E. Bachmann Sr. and their children, Mrs. Maude Studt of Niles, Miss Irene Bachmann of Niles and Clarence of Dowagiac, Mrs. Ethel Anderson of Barry, IL, Paul of Niles, Mrs. Evelyn Koenigshot of Niles, Mrs. Pete Meyer of Benton Harbor and Albert Jr. of Niles.

Also surviving are three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Bertha Bachmann of Chicago, Mrs. Emma Peters of Quincy, IL, Mrs. William Haase of Oshkosh, WI, George Mangelsdorff of Quincy and Edward Mangelsdorff of Quincy; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Bachmann was born on Nov. 22, 1877, in Chicago, Ill, and came to Niles from there in 1925.

Friends may call in the Pifer Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Harold W. Hohman, pastor of St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

*  It appears that the Niles Daily Star misprinted the name of this family in the obituary.  All information in the obituary matches the death record for Minnie Barkmann as does the information in the cemetery record and on her gravemarker.

 

 

Bachman, Jacob

Jacob E. Bachman,
June 25, 1872 – Dec. 21, 1951

Jacob E. Bachman, 17 Parkway, died at 10:10 a.m. Friday in the Kalamazoo State hospital.  He had been ill for two years.

His closest survivor is a stepson, Leo Weiser of Niles, with whom he made his home. Also surviving are three nieces. Mrs. Ace Dorren of Three Rivers, Mrs. Nelson Shattuck of Bertrand, and Mrs. Edith Fisher of Niles; and a nephew, Francis Martin of Niles.

Bachman was born on June 25, 1873 in Niles and had been a lifelong resident here.

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe, Presbyterian pastor. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery

Herman Bachman

July 1, 1895 – Feb. 5, 1969

NILES – Herman Bachman, 73, of 829 Clay St. died Wednesday in Pawating Hospital after being in poor health for the past five years.

Mr. Bachman was born June 1, 1895, in Niles and had been a life long resident. He retired from Tyler Fixture corp., in 1960, and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 26, World War I Barracks and St. John’s United church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the St. John’s United Church of Christ with the Rev. Arlan E. Schlundt officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call in the Pifer Funeral Home after 7 p.m. tonight.

Hartman F. Bachman
Feb. 18, 1881 – March 22, 1948

Hartman F. Bachman, 67, of 92 Marmont Street, died at 5:45 a.m. today in his home after an illness of three months. He was formerly an inspector for the New York Central Railroad and has retired. He was a member of the Carman’s union and the Pioneers.

Born in Germany, Feb. 18, 1881. He came to this country as a small child and lived in Niles all his remaining life. He was married to Myrtle Mell who survives in Niles on April 11, 1904.

Other survivors include six children, Robert, Lyle, Roy, Clarence and Mrs. Theodore Spenner of Niles, and Mrs. Ruth Kane of Chicago; three grandchildren and five brothers, William, Emil and Herman of Niles, Charles of Buchanan and George of Ypslanti, MI.

Friends may call in the Pifer Funeral Home where Christian Science services will be read at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday by Thomas Garvin. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

FRED BACHMAN, 69, ILL MONTH, DIES

Fred Bachman, 69, of 1522 North First Street, died in Pawating Hospital this morning at 5:30 after an illness of a month.

Born July 27, 1874, he came to Niles at the age of 16 from Germany with his  parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Sebastian Bachman and had lived here all his adult life. He was  employed  at the railroad as a  machinist  from 1890 until 1937, when he retired.

He was married Aug. 4, 1897 to Katherine Wurz, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Earl S. Bachman, Niles; a grandson, Earl A. Bachman, with the Coast Guard at Cleveland; a great-grandson, Donald G. Bachman; six brothers, Hartman, William, Emil of Niles and Herman and Charles Bachman of Buchanan and George Bachman, Ypsilanti.

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Brotherhood of St. John’s church and the Michigan Central Pioneers’ association.

Services will be conducted at 2:30 Wednesday in St. John’s Church by the Rev. Theo Eisen with burial in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the Rutherford funeral Home.

BACHMAN SERVICES

Services for Fred Bachman, 1522 North Fifth street, who died Monday, will be conducted at 2:30 Wednesday in St. John's Reformed and Evangelical church by the Rev. Theo Eisen. The body will lie in sate in the church between 1:30 and 2:30, but friends may call at the Rutherford funeral home until noon. Six brothers of Bachman will be pallbearers.

Pallbearers for the funeral services for Fred Bachman, 1522 North Fifth street, which were conducted this afternoon in St. John's Reformed and Evangelical church by the Rev. Ferd Bachman, 70, Stricken Today; Funeral Saturday

Ferd Bachman, 70, who came to Niles from Three Oaks 40 years ago, died at 11:45 this morning in his home at 724 Maple Street. He had been in ill health the last six years.

Employed 35 years a stationery engineer for the National Printing and Engraving Company, he was a member of the Niles Elks lodge and of the Odd Fellows and Rebekah encampment.

Surviving are a son, Gordon Bachman, Niles; a brother, Henry and two sisters, the Misses Elizabeth and Lucille Bachman, all of Three Oaks. Mr. Bachman was born near Three Oaks Oct. 13, 1871.

Family may call at the Pifer Funeral Home where the service will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Emil F. Bachman, aged 58, of 619 Sycamore street, died at 1 a.m. today in his residence after an illness of eight months.

Born in Niles on May 26, 1891, he lived his lifetime in Niles and was with the New York Central Railroad for 31 years, serving as a yard conductor at the time of his death.

Surviving are his wife, Elsa; four brothers, William and Charles of Buchanan, Herman, of Niles, and George of Ypsilanti; and two grandchildren, Don. E. Pierce and Dean Pierce, both of Niles.

Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Harold Hohman at 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

He was a member of the St. John’s church and of the Niles Elks lodge.
