This year our Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery group is celebrating our 17th year of incorporation as a non-profit organization. We are volunteers who care deeply about our city cemetery's history and the final resting places of many former Niles citizens who have contributed greatly to its story.
We enjoy sponsoring our walking tour each fall with the Niles History Center staff honoring the lives of different individuals who are buried within the gates. Two years in a row we have had cold, wet weather, and people still come! Mollie Watson, the Assistant Museum Director, does an awesome job of leading the tour.
We thank you in advance for your membership and kind donations which fund our website and many photos and obituaries which are added continually by our volunteers. Flags for Veteran graves and the service flags which fly in front of the Abbey are our biggest expenditure each year, and what better way is there to spend your contributions than honoring the veterans who have served our country. Updated signage and maps as well as supplies for continued gravestone repairs and restoration are among the many projects we also help fund. The city of Niles staff is very supportive of our efforts and we appreciate their help in return.
Please know we value every dollar we receive and promise to spend it wisely. The annual support we receive from local Niles citizens as well as out-of-state families and friends confirms to us on a daily basis that Silverbrook Cemetery is appropriately honoring their loved ones' final resting place. We hope to continue these efforts for years to come.
Many thanks,
Ginny Tyler
