PASSED AWAY
Granville Lacey Gives Up
Life’s Struggle After a Long Illness

Last night passed away from this life one of Niles’ oldest residents and most honored citizens, Mr. Granville Lacey.  Mr. Lacey’s health had been gradually failing for a year, and being very low the last week his friends had a feeling that the last days of his life were near at hand.  The end therefore was not unexpected.

Mr. Lacey was born in this city in February 1932. And it is said he was the first white person born in Niles.  His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Lacey, were among the first settlers here.  The deceased leaves, besides two daughters, Miss Mae Lacey and Mrs. G I. Mitchell, who resides in Florida; two brothers, Mr. Solon Lacey and Mr. W.K. Lacey, both of whom live in this city.  His wife died years ago.

Mr. Lacey was identified very closely with the business interests of Niles. In partnership with his brother they owned and controlled the extensive cooper shops, cider mill and saw mill on Exchange street.  Mr. Lacey was also a stock holder in the Niles Milling Company.

He was a staunch adherent of the Republican party and served one term in the common council as alderman, during which time he always had the welfare of this beloved city at heart.

Mr. Lacey was a friend to every one and non e but the kindliest of words are spoken of him.  His pleasant home on Main Street, where he and his amiable family resided many years, has been in years past the centre of a gracious hospitality, often enjoyed by their large circle of friends.  The relatives have the sympathy of the community.

The time of the funeral has not yet been decided upon.
