In this city, Aug. 16th, Jane Stafford (colored), aged 52 years. She had been confined to her bed by palsy for four years and a half. She was a native of Maryland, and had been a member of the African M.E. church for 35 years.

SAMUEL H. GRIFFIN, one of our oldest and best known citizens, and a man highly esteemed by those who knew him best, died at St. Joseph, Missouri, on Sunday last, after a short illness. Mr. GRIFFIN went to St. Joseph a short time ago to take temporary charge of a business house there and enjoyed unusually good health til with in a few days of his death. his remains were brought to this city on Tuesday.

In the death of Samuel H. Griffin our city loses an old and valued citizen, and one who was much esteemed. He died in St. Joseph, Mo., on Sunday last, to which place he had gone a short time since, on a business trip.--He had been in good health to within a few days of time he died, and the announcement of his death was very unexpected. His remains were brought home and interred last Wednesday.

In this city, August 19th, Mable, infant daughter of Perry O. and Emma J. Griffin, aged one year and 7 days.
Death has snatched from the happy home circle this dear little one-the joy and comfort of devoted hearts. Though lost to earth it is now an angel in the home of the blest, and its little spirit will forever linger in the presence of Him who blesses little children and bids them come.

INFANT HILL DIED TODAY
Clayton Hill, five months old son of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Hill, died this morning after an illness of bronchial pneumonia. Funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the residence, one mile west of the city, on the Buchanan road. Rev. W.H. Camfield, pastor of the Evangelical church will officiate. Burial at Sivler Brook cemetery.

Robert Edward Hubbard

NILES--Robert Edward Hubbard, 52, 1922 S. 17th st., died at 5:10 a.m. today at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
An employe at Garden city Fan Co. he was born April 7, 1923 in Modock, Ill. and had lived here for 20 years, coming from Princeton, Ind.
On Jan. 22, 1951 in Princeton, he married the former Mary Lucille Loyd, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Eva Watkins of Niles; three sons, Michael of Niles and Patrick Alan and Anthony Alan, both at home; and a daughter Stacey Michaell, at home.
Private funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pifer Chapel of the Swem-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Bauer of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Infant Girl Teeple

NILES--Funeral services were held today in Silverbrook Cemetery for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen J. Teeple, 1603 Regent St. She was stillborn at 8:44 p.m. Saturday in Pawating Hospital.
In addition to her parents, survivors include two sisters, Jennifer Ann and Stephanie Kay Teeple at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Teeple of Niles and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hart of Hot Springs, Ark., and greatgrandparents, Mrs. Mary Wright and Mrs. Hart of Murphysboro, Ill.
Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Halbritter Funeral Home.
L.D. Cheney

BERRIEN SPRINGS--L.D. Cheney, 84, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Unity Hospital in Buchanan after an illness of two weeks.
The owner of Dad and Lad's used furniture business in Berrien Springs, he was born June 22, 1890, in Hamilton, Mich. and lived in Berrien Springs most of his lifetime.
On March 19, 1911, in Decatur he married the former Cora Wilson, She died May 2, 1945.
Surviving are four sons, Lyle of Knox, Ind., Leonard and Burton of Niles and Julius of Mishawaka; four daughters, Mrs. Harry (Maxine) Crevey of Buchanan, Mrs. Alva (Edna) Hartline of Marcellus, Mrs. J.R. (Eva June) Adkins of Niles and Mrs. Lawrence (Wanda) Thompson of Matthews, Ind.; 45 grandchildren, 83 greatgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 :30 p.m. Friday at the Pifer Chapel of the Swem-Smith Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Ralph Pletcher, Pastor of Coulter's Chapel Church of God, officiating.
Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
