REV. F.G. HURD DIES;

MINISTER 51 YEARS

Pastor of Franklin A.M.E. Stricken After One Week's Illness

 

Death today ended the 51-year ministerial service of the Rev. Felix G. Hurd, pastor of the Franklin A.M.E. church on Sycamore street.

He died at 1:15 o'clock this morning in his home, 807 Sycamore, after an illness of one week.

Mr. Hurd, 75 years old, came to Niles three years ago from Adrian, Mich., and rounded out a half-century as a minister last year.

Survivors are the widow, the former Sarah McGinnis, whom he married Oct. 13, 1892, in Mound City, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Calonia Brooks, Decatur, Ill.

Mr. Hurd was a native of Collierville, Tenn., and was born July 22, 1863.

The body is in the Price and Kiger funeral home, where friends may call. Services will be conducted in the church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. R.F. Washington, Ann Arbor, and the Rev. G.W. Daber, Detroit.

Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
