NILES--Mrs. Evelyn L. Moore, 56, of 2520 Pokagon Highway, was dead on arrival at 3:25 a.m Tuesday in Pawating Hospital, after an illness of one month.

Born Aug. 13, 1914, in South Bend, Mrs. Moore had lived here for 26 years, coming form South Bend. On Sept. 21, 1932 in South Bend, she married Mearl D. Moore St., who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Mearl D. Jr. of Dowagiac, Robert L. of Niles, Russell of Sumnerville and Neil at home; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Perry of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Leona Harris and Mrs. Ardis Mish, both of Portland, Ore., and 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Pifer Funeral Home, with the Rev. Neal Crapo of the Rosewarne Bible Church officiating.  Burial will be in  Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call after 7 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Neldon, James Melton

Funeral services for James Melton Neldon, 59, of 1407 Maple St., Niles, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred T. Smith, of South Niles Community Church, officiating.

Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

Neldon died at 2:58 a.m. Sunday at Pawating Hospital following a brief illness.

Born Sept. 28, 1933, in Newport, Ark., he was a resident of Niles since 1955, coming from Searcy, Ark.

On Aug. 18, 1956, in Angola, Ind., he married the former Leah E. Nieb, who survives.

He was retired from Tyler Refrigeration.

Other survivors include three sons, Charles Neldon of South Bend, Michael Neldon of Niles and John Neldon of Niles; a daughter, Beverly Pendergrass of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Charles M. Neldon of Niles and Raymond E. Neldon of Niles and a sister Patricia Neldon of Niles.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 pm. to 8 pm.  Tuesday at Halbritter Funeral Home.

 

Augustine, Lewis E.

Funeral services for Lewis E. Augustine, 87, of 326 N. 3rd St., who died at 10:45 a.m. Saturday in the Beckwith Nursing Home here, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Kiger Funeral Home. The Rev. Maurice D. McKean, pastor of the First Methodist Church, will officiate.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.  He had been ill three years.

Mr. Augustine was born here Oct. 8, 1875. He retired in 1950, after 56 years as a barber.  His wife, Amy, died in 1939.

Survivors include a son, Max, Niles; two daughters, Mrs. Ila Borges, South Bend, and Mrs. Marion McVay, Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Friends are being received at the funeral home.

 

Clubb, Gilbert E.

Funeral services for Gilbert E. Clubb, 35, 1090 Huntly Road, Niles, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Halbritter Funeral Home by the Rev. Fred T. Smith, South Niles Community Church.

Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Mr. Clubb died at 5:40 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, Ind., following an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 3, 1954 in Niles and had lived here all his life.

Mr. Clubb was employed by Simplicity Pattern Co.

On. Oct. 13, 1973 in Niles, he married Margaret C. Demos, who survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Amber Clubb, at home; a son, Dustin Clubb, at home; his mother Mary Clubb of Niles; two sisters: Carol Faulkner and Judy Wagner, both of Niles; and a brother, Robert Lloyd of Niles.

Visitations will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials contributions may be made to the donor's choice.

 

Crane, Thomas G.

Thomas G. Crane, 81, Hope Nursing Home, Lawton, formerly of Niles, died at 12:02 a.m. Friday at the nursing home.

He retired in 1967 from White Farm Equipment Co., in South Bend and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Niles.

Born Oct. 28, 1902 in Commerce, Ga., he was married to Sylvia Crane, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Thomas Crane Jr. and Donald Crane, both of Chicago, and Victor Crane of Paw Paw; a daughter, Peggy Crane of Chicago; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. W.L. Daniel officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

 

Davey, Juanita

NILES--Juanita Davey, 49, of 2505 Reese Dr., died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, following an illness of four months.

She was born May 22, 1928, in Bolton, N.C., and had lived here for 25 years, coming from Franklin, Va. She was an employee of the Aviex Corp.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence E. Davey Jr. of Niles; two daughters, Mrs. William (Susan) Christene Visel and Miss Linda Davey, both of Niles; a brother, William Best of Niles; three sisters, Mrs. Clyde (Bessie) Noble of Niles; Mrs. Ruby Corban of Niles and Mrs. Ruth Russell of Avon N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pifer Chapel of the Swem-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Smith of the Huntley Memorial Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends are calling at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service.

 

DeShazer, Nancy Pauline

Mrs. Herman (Nancy Pauline) DeShazer, 56, 1102 N. 8th St., died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in Pawating Hospital where she had been a patient since Feb. 12. She had been in failing health for three years.

Mrs. DeShazer was born May 29, 1903, in Brookhaven, Miss., and came to Niles 17 years ago from Hollandale, Miss.

Surviving are: her husband; three sons, Anzie DeShazer, Hollandale, Miss., Curtis Cotton, Brookhaven, Miss., and Johnnie Cotton, St. Louis, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Laurice Bryant, Brookhaven,, Mrs. Ethel Maxwell, Niles, and Mrs. Pauline Foster, Greenville, Miss.; 24 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Clydee Grant, Brookhaven and a half-brother, Arthur Grant of Chicago.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Mount Calvary Baptist Church here with the pastor, Rev. Theodis Hadley, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home beginning Saturday afternoon.
