Brian R. Day, 53, a longtime resident of Niles, died unexpectedly but of natural causes on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007,  in his home.  He was born July 10, 1954. He is survived by his mother, Betty L. Day of Niles; a sister, Patricia E. (Richard) Seidner of Niles; several nieces and a circle of friends, including his good friend, Jerry Schmaltz, and special friend, Sue Zandarski. The family is gathering privately for services at Halbritter Funeral Home, with Pastor Kendall M. Holder of Baroda Church of God officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Day, Bertha L. (Mickle)

Bertha L. Day (Mickle)

Jan. 30, 1922 – May 21, 1999

Mrs. Bertha Louise Day, 77, of 48 North St. Joseph Avenue, Niles, Mich., died at 9:20 p.m. on Friday, May 21 in Lakeland Medical Center, Niles.

Louise was a member of Fulkerson Park Baptist Church, Niles. She was co-owner of the Chuck Day Music Center, Niles, and a member of the Niles Music club.

Louise was born on Jan. 30, 1922, at Rock Hill, S.C. and had lived her since 1949, coming from Marion, N.C.  On March7, 142, in Dyersburg, Tenn., Louise was united in marriage to Charles Frank Day, whom is surviving.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Linda Louise Jaroch of Buchanan, Mich., and Cheryl “Kay” Charlene Morris of Ferndale, Calif.; a brother, Ear Mark Mickle of Valdese, N.C; and two sisters, Margaret Swartz of Buchanan and Jesse Willis of Burnsville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Charles Jaroch of Buchanan, Anthony Jaroch of Virginia beach, VA, Jamie Bowman of Redding, Calif., Kimberly Chambers, Lyle Morris and Terry Morris, all of Ferndale; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fulkerson Park Baptist Church, Niles with the Rev. Edward Villalba officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday in the Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan.

Memorials may be made to Fulkerson Park Baptist Church of Niles.

Davis, Russell Hershell

Russell H. Davis

Russell Hershell Davis, 88, of 19300 Auten Road, South Bend, Ind., died of natural causes at 10:47 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006,  in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.

He was born on April 1, 1917, in Niles, Michigan, to the late Frank and Cora Bell (Carter) Davis. On Nov. 4, 1944, in Petersburg, Va., he married Marian Irene Miltenburger, who preceded him in death in 1992.

He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran as a sergeant. He retired from Clark Equipment Company, Buchanan, Mich., and had lived in Niles since 1980.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Helen (Lynn) Boggs of Statesville, N.C.; a son, Kenneth Davis of South Bend; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, Mich., with Pastor John Bair of Bethel Tabernacle officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, Mich.

Friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in the funeral home.

Davis, Mildred Elaine (Lintz)

Mildred Elaine "Millie'' Davis, 59, of 1096 Almaugus Drive, died Wednesday Oct. 14, 1998,  in University of Chicago Hospitals, Chicago, after an illness.  She was born Feb. 4, 1939, Survivors include her husband, Billy H. Sr.; two sons, John H. of South Bend and Thomas E. Sr. of Niles; four sisters, Earlene M. Severs, Florence Joanis and Nancy Onken, all of Niles, and Deborah Trussell of Dowagiac; and four brothers, Jim and Danny Lintz, both of Niles, Earl Lintz of Buchanan and Scott Lintz of Mesquite, Texas. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Halbritter Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Davis, Maude E. (Fulkerth)

Maude E. Davis
Oct. 1, 1911-Aug. 16, 1986

Maude E. Davis, 74, 1621 Michigan St., Niles, died at 9:35 p.m. Saturday at Pawating Hospital following an extended illness.

She retired after 21 years of employment at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA.

Born Oct. 1, 1911 in Berrien Springs to William Henry and Bertha Mable (Graham) Fulkerth, she married Hal Davis who died Aug. 17, 1957.

Surviving are two sons, George and Charles Davis, both of Niles; a daughter, Barbara Williams of Decatur; a brother, Lynes T. Fulkerth of Niles; a sister, Pauline Smith of coos Bay, Ore; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Halbritter Funeral Home with Rev. Arnold O. Schaap of Edwardsburg officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Davis, K.C. J.

K.C. J. Davis
Nov. 16, 1994-April 6, 1996

K.C. J. Davis, 11/2-year-old son of Kevin and Anne (McGill) Davis, of 2709 Sommers St., died after an illness at 10:32 a.m. Friday April 6, 1996,  in Lakeland Medical Center. He was born Nov. 16, 1994, in Niles. Surviving with his parents are a brother, Taylor W. at home; grandparents, Diane Davis of Niles; Charles Davis of Niles; William Lee and Wilma McGill Sr. of Niles; Gary P. and Kathy Mansfield of Niles; great-grandparents, Marietta Davis of Mishawaka; John and Eleanor McGill of Niles and John and Dorothy McLaughlin of Niles; and several aunts and uncles.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before services in the funeral home.

Davis, Florence E.

- Services for Florence E. Davis, 91, of 1323 State Line Road, who died at 3:40 a.m. Friday Dec. 23, 1994,  in Silverbrook Manor after an illness, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, Granger.

Mrs. Davis worked at Bendix Corp. in South Bend for 22 years. She also was a welder for 15 years at Studebaker Corp. and was among the first group of women employees there. She was born March 5, 1903, in Zanesville, Ohio, and lived in Niles since 1925, coming from Pittsburgh. On Nov. 18, 1944, in South Bend, she married Walter Leroy Davis. He died Sept. 19, 1971. Surviving are three stepdaughters, Myrle Gills of Dandrige, Tenn, Ella Butler of Collinswood, Tenn., and Edna Borton of LaPaz; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and 42 great-great-grandchildren. A son, George Hochgesang, died July 16, 1980, and a stepdaughter, Bertha Wilson, preceded her in death. She was a member of the church.
