Horn, Louise Anna

Mrs. Louise Anna Horn, 83, former long-time resident of 100 Forest Ave., Niles, Mich., died following a brief illness at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Thunderbird Foster Care, Niles.

Mrs. Horn was born on March 6, 1916, at Detroit, Mich., to George and Lillian (Haas) Mong, and had lived in Niles since 1932. She graduated from Niles High School.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Niles, where she had been active in many areas including teaching Sunday School. She had also volunteered with the Girl Scouts when her daughters were involved. She enjoyed collecting dolls, doing hand needlework, completing crossword puzzles and playing solitaire.

On Oct. 11, 1941, in Niles, she was married to Robert Deloise Horn, who preceded her in death on February 4, 1994.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Diaz of Bloomingdale, Ill., and Gloria Keef of Palm City, Fla.; five grandchildren, Heidi and Heather Diaz, Allison Dubuque, and Robert and Maili Keef; and by her sister, Marian Wagner of Niles.

Funeral services for Louise Horn will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Nolan R. Williams of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Committal services will be at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hover-Nieb, Shirley

 

Shirley Hover-Nieb, 72, of St. Joseph, Mich., died on Wednesday, Feb. 26,  2003, in her residence.

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, March 1, in the Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Burial took place at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, Mich.

Memorial contributions may be made to Safe Shelter Inc. of Benton Harbor, Mich., or to Hospice At Home of Stevensville, Mich.

Shirley was born on March 19, 1930, in Niles, to Frank and Helen (Foster) Hover. She was a graduate of Niles High School in 1948. Shirley retired as a manager in customer service at the Whirlpool Corporation in 1990 after 33 years of service. She loved to learn new things and continually strived to educate herself whenever possible. She loved traveling, especially with her elder hostel traveling companions. Shirley was also an excellent cook; her family and friends looked forward to her dinner invitations. She was a wonderful mother and friend, and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Nieb of Benton Harbor, and Brenda's fiancée, Jonathan Dube; her mother, Helen Morley of Niles; a brother, Jerry Hover, and a sister, Bonnie (Ed) Behm, both of Niles. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Hover, and by a brother, Jack.

Horn, Robert Deloise

Robert Deloise Horn
Nov. 26, 1914-Feb. 4, 1994

Robert Deloise Horn, 79, of 100 Forest St., died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 1994, in his home after an illness. Mr. Horn retired from French Paper Co. He was born Nov. 26, 1914, in St. Joseph County, Ind. On Oct. 11, 1941, in Niles, he married Louise A. Mong.  She survives, with two daughters, Sandra Diaz of Bloomingdale, Ill., and Gloria Keef of Parker, Colo.; and five grandchildren.  Mr. Horn was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Moose Lodge 978.  He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Niles Community Library.

Louisa Anna Horn

Holy, Robert A.

Mr. Robert A. Holy, 77, of Winkler Road, Niles, died at 3:24 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2007, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, following an extended illness.

He was born on August 10, 1929, in Niles, to John M. and Ida (Guard) Holy, and lived in Niles all of his life. He was employed for many years by Freeman-Spicer Studebaker of South Bend, and was retired from Brandywine Public Schools, Niles. In retirement he continued with seasonal work at both Brandywine and Edwardsburg (Michigan) Schools.

Mr. Holy attended the Portage Road General Baptist Church, Niles. He was also a longtime volunteer at the Niles Township Fire Department. He enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting, camping and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the western and southern United States, and spent many winters in Frostproof, Florida. His greatest interest was his wife and family, and attending the activities of his grandchildren.

On July 30, 1949, in the parsonage of First Methodist Church, Niles, he married the former Vera Hauch, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Debra (Tom) Hessey and Chris (Frelen Gowen) Zache, all of Niles, and Mike (Kathy) Holy of Buchanan; grandchildren, Deanna (Joe) Rudell, Brian (Michelle) Zache, Brad (Jenna) Zache, Bruce (Erica) Zache, Angie Holy, Ryan Holy and Aaron Holy; great-grandchildren, Chase Rudell, Zachary Zache and Matthew Zache; his brother, Jim (Marion) Holy, and sister, Martha Bunnell, both of Jackson, MI; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Holy was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lisa Hessey, who died on December 10, 1996; a son-in-law, Gary Zache in 1984; his brothers, Frank Holy and Charles Holy; a sister, Mary Jane Holy, and a half brother, Marion Carnes.

The funeral services for Robert A. Holy will be at 11 a.m. today, April 27, in the Portage Road General Baptist Church, Niles, with Pastor Garland Rhodes of the church officiating. Committal will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

The family received relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.

Holt, Marvin Harry

Marvin Harry Holt
Feb. 22, 1925-July 6, 1994

Marvin Harry Holt, 69, of 1399 Zilke St., died at 6:10 a.m. today, July 6, 1994, in his home after an illness. Mr. Holt was an employee of the former Joe Hayden Inc., Niles, and Gates Chevrolet Co., South Bend. He was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Shawnee, Okla., and was a Niles resident most of his life. On Nov. 16, 1968, in Muncie, Ind., he married Mary Jo Adams. She survives with two daughters, Sandra Kay Holt-Holland of Springport, Ind., and Laura Mae VanBuskirk of Selma, Ind.; a son, Michael Harry of Niles; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Pauline Gentry, Eveline Gentry, Louise Harner and Roberta Adams, all of Niles; and a brother, George of Niles. He was Marine Corps veteran of World War II, a member of Church of Christ, American Legion Post 26 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4025.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 26. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.

Holt, George Michael

George Michael Holt
Aug. 2, 1930-Jan. 20, 1997

Funeral services for George Michael Holt, 66, of 2240 Terminal road, Niles, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Pifer-Smith Funeral Home, Niles. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles. Holt died Jan. 20, 1997 in his daughter’s home at 12:30 a.m. Monday of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 2, 1930 in Shawnee, Okla. Holt was the owner and operator of Holts Auto Parts, Niles.  Survivors include a daughter, Debra Holt Heckathorn of Niles; two sons, Michael Holt and les Allen Holt, both of Niles; two granddaughters, two grandson; four sisters, Pauline Gentry, Evaline Gentry, Louise Harner and Roberta Adams, all of Niles.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.The family requests all memorial contributions be made to Hospice at Home.
