MRS. F. STARKWEATHER PASSED AWAY TODAY

Many Mourn Death of Much-beloved Lady

A beautiful life was brought to a peaceful close this morning at 11:30 o'clock when Mrs. Cora Starkweather, wife of Frank Starkweather, Berrien county road commissioner, passed away at their home north of the city after a prolonged illness from cancer and Bright's disease. While she had long been ill it was not until last Friday that the marked changed for the worse came and since that day her life had been despaired of. The long illness and suffering has been patiently borne, the same unselfish devotion to her family which had always characterized her home life, having been manifested to the end.

Cora Delia Warner was born in Slaterville, N.Y., Oct. 9, 1863, the daughter of Rev. Francis M. and Mary A Cannon Warner. She was  married to Frank Starkweather at Lodi, N.Y., Jan. 17, 1882.  They came to Niles directly after their marriage.  Four children were born to them, Roy Lincoln., Clinton J., Evan Warner and Doris Starkweather.  Besides the husband two of the children survive., Dr. Roy Starkweather of Goshen, and Miss Doris, who is at home.  The following brothers and sisters also survive:  Mrs. Frank Mason of Ann Arbor, Mrs. Mary Avery of Rochester, N.Y.; John Warner of Buffalo, N.Y.; Mrs. Evan Lombard of Cape Elizabeth, Me.; and Charles Warner of Buffalo.

With the relatives, many friends mourn Mrs. Starkweather's death, her ready sympathy and other splendid qualities have won her a warm place in their hearts. In the neighborhood especially she will be sadly missed.

The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be private.

The funeral services for Mrs. Frank Starkweather will not be private as was stated yesterday and all friends may attend.  The services will be held at 2 o'clock from the house.  Rev. R.A. Wright of the Methodist church will officiate. Interment will occur at Silver brook cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Starkweather were held this afternoon from the residence north of the city. Rev. R.A. Wright of the Methodist church conducted the services.  The remains were laid to rest at Silver Brook cemetery in this city. Automobiles were exclusively used for the funeral procession and an auto hearse conveyed the remains.  A large concourse of friends were in attendance at the last sad rites for the much beloved lady, about 25 cars being in the procession.

MRS. STARKWEATHER DIES IN GOSHEN, IND.

Wife of Dr. Roy Starkweather Had Long Been Ill--Body Will be Brought to Niles for Burial

Mrs. Helen Johnson Starkweather, wife of Dr. Roy Starkweather, the latter a son of Frank Starkweather, died last evening at 11 o'clock at her home in Goshen after a prolonged illness from a complication of disease.  Mrs. Starkweather was 33 years of age. She was born in South Bend and had practically spent her entire life there until she was married to Dr. Stakweather in Atlantic City, 10 years ago. Doctor and Mrs. Starkweather had no children. Besides the husband, Mrs. Starkweather is survived by her mother, four sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Starkweather had frequently visisted in Niles. Her lovable disposition won for her many friends who deeply mourn her death.

Private funeral services will be held in Goshen tomorrow afternoon. The body will be brought to Niles for burial in the Starkweather lot in accordance with the expressed wish of the deceased.

MRS. CHRISTINA EISELE DIED AT EARLY HOUR

Deceased Was Born in Germany In 1851

Mrs. Christina Eisele passed away this morning at 5:10 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clete Forest, 711 South Ninth street.  Mrs. Eisele's home was at 510 Maple street for many years until eight weeks ago, when she was taken to her daughter's home on account of her illness.  Her death was caused by dropsy and followed weeks of intense suffering, which she bore patiently.

Mrs. Eisele was born at Stuttgart, Germany, Sept. 13, 1851. She came to Niles about 40 years ago.  Her marriage to John Eisele occurred in Niles.  Mr. Eisele died about 14 years ago.

Mrs. Eisele is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Forest and two sons, George and Frank Eisele, all of Niles.  A daughter, Lizzie died three years ago.

The deceased was a highly esteemed lady and many friends mourn her death.

The funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Forest, and at 3 o'clock from St. John's Evangelical church of which Mrs. Eisele was a life long member and faithful worker. Interment will occur at Silver Brook Cemetery in the family lot.

GIRL, 4, IS STRICKEN WITH SCARLET FEVER

Little Mary Linquist Dies from Dread Disease at Parents Home

Mary Catherine Linquist, four years old, daughter and only child of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Linquist, 320 Huron street, died last evening about  9 o'clock, a victim of scarlet fever. The child had been sick for about two weeks and had the disease in a pronounced form since first stricken. The family make their home with Mrs. Linquist's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Kane. Mrs. Linquist was formerly Miss Mary Kane.

Private funeral services will be held at the home tomorrow afternoon. Burial will take place in Silver Brook cemetery.

As far as reported to the city health officer, Dr. L.M. Rutz there is but one other case of scarlet fever in the city, that of Louis Ehninger, N. Lincoln avenue who is making a satisfactory recovery.

Scarlet fever has been less prevalent in the city since the Dick tests have been introduced in to the public schools. It is not known how the little Linquist girl contracted the disease.

JOHN CHARLWOOD DEAD

Word was received in Niles today of the death this morning of John Charlwood, at Elgin,Ill., from pneumonia.  The body will be brought to Niles for burial on Tuesday and burial will take place in Silver Brook cemetery. Mr. Charlwood is survived by a widow.  Mr. Charlwood came to Niles a number of years ago and conducted a bakery. Later he was employed as a traveling salesman until ill health prevented.

FUNERAL SERVICE TUESDAY

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock for John W. Charlwood, who died on Saturday morning in Elgin, Ill., after five days illness with influenza and pneumonia.  The services will be in charge of St. Joseph Valley Lodge, No. 4 F. and A. M. with an escort from Niles Commandery,  No. 12, Knights Templar.  Rev. W.W. Slee, pastor of the Methodist church will be the officiating minister.  Burial will take place in Silver Brook cemetery. Mr Charlwood was 52 years of age.  He was born in Buchanan and had spent most of his life in this vicinity.  For a number of years he engaged in the bakery business in Niles and later was employed as a traveling salesman. Mr. and Mrs. Charlwood moved to Elgin last August from Niles.  Mr. Charlwood is survived by a widow, Mrs. Mildred Charlwood, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Charlwood, of Buchanan, a daughter, Mrs. Roscoe Clark, of Niles and three brothers, Charles, Buchanan; Arthur, South Bend, and Knowles, of Baldwin, Miss. The body was [illegible]taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Clark, 214 N. Fifteenth street. Friends may call at the Rutherford Funeral Home tomorrow after 10 o'clock to view the body.  Besides the Masonic orders, Mr. Charlwood was a member of Niles Camp, Modern Woodmen of America.  Mrs. Charlwood and Mrs. Clark accompanied the body to Niles.

Minnie (Hartman) Young

MRS. JOHN M. YOUNG IS STRICKEN AT HER HOME

Passes Away At 26 N. State Street After Long Illness

Mrs. Minnie Young, wife of John M. Young, 26 N. State street, died at 5 o'clock this morning, at their home. Mrs. Young suffered a third and ocmplete[sic] stroke of paralysis on Friday evening and she did not regain consciousness. Mrs. Young had spent practically her entire life in Niles and was well known to many although for about three years she had practically been an invalid, an invalidism patiently borne.

Mrs. Young's maiden name was Minnie Hartman, a daughter of Eli and Clara Hartman. She was born in Cass county near Three Rivers on July 7, 1874. She was married in Niles to  Mr. Young on May 4, 1893.  Of the two children born to them one survives, Mrs. Gladys Unruh, at home.  The other child died at the age of eight years.  Besides her husband and daughter, Mrs. Young is survived by two brothers who are Sol Hartman and William Hartman, both of Cass county.

The funeral services will be held in the home on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. John Schurman, pastor of the Evangelical church, will officiate.  Burial will take place in Silver Brook cemetery.
