Funeral services for Barbara L. Ditson, 60, of 2806 Hoyt Drive, Niles, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Halbritter Funeral Home  with the Rev. Arnold O. Schaap of Edwardsburg officiating.

Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Ditson died at 5:01 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Medical Center in South Bend following an extended illness.

Born May 14, 1932, in Berwyn, Neb., she had lived in this area since 1955, coming from Broken Bow, Neb.

On May 27, 1951, in Broken Bow, she married Wayne A. Ditson, who survives.

She was a homemaker and was a member of T.O.P.S. in Niles.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin L. Ditson of Granger, Ind., and Lonnie D. Ditson of Niles; three grandchildren; five sisters, Georgia Angeloff of Palmetto, Fla., Evyline Feeny of Niles, Delores McMahon of San Diego, Gloria Lunn of Caspian, Mich.,and Pat Ditson of Wausaukee, Wisc., and five brothers, Michael Vinnedge of Wausaukee, Thomas Vinnedge of Winslow, Ind., David Vinnedge of Person, Wisc., Charles Vinnedge of Prinston, Ind., and Daniel Vinnedge of Person. A sister, Janet Vinnedge and a brother John Vinnedge preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Halbritter Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

 

Doty, Eric

Funeral services for Mr. Eric Doty, 62, of 1638 Taft St., Niles, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Church of God in Christ, Buchanan by the Pastor Hayes Taylor, pastor.

Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Mr. Doty died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home.

He was born Feb. 26, 1929, in Greenwood, Miss., and lived in this area since 1955.

Mr. Doty worked in the RV transportation industry.

He was a member of the Mount Zion Church of God in Christ, Buchanan. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

On Aug. 22, 1986, in Niles, he married Pam Bradshaw, who survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Alfred Doty and Eric Wilson, both of Chicago, Ill.; four daughters, Karla Doty, Nann Doty, and Kyle Doty, all of South Bend, Ind., and Cascell Doty of Niles; one step-daugther, Keri Davis of South Bend, Ind.; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. and wake services at 7 p.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Home, Inc., 2618 West John Beers Rd., Stevensville.

Funeral services for Daniel "Danny" Duncan, 28, of Rt. 5, Box 5783, Manchester, Tenn., are scheduled for 11 a.m .Friday at Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Arnold O. Schaap of Edwardsburg officiating.

Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Duncan died at 6:58 p.m. Tuesday in Manchester following a traffic accident.

Born March 21, 1965, in Niles, he had lived in Manchester since 1991, coming from Niles.

He was a general construction employee.

Survivors include a daughter, Melanie Burkes of South Bend; his mother, Sandra Duncan of Niles; his father William "Lynn" Duncan of Manchester; two brothers, Steve Duncan of Goshen,Ind., and Tim Duncan of Niles and grandparents, Virginia and Leonard Dombrowski of Niles and John Duncan of Manchester.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral services.

 

 

 

Fender, Hattie E.

Hattie E. Fender, 89, of 210 N. Eighth St., Niles, died at 12:53 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, Ind., after a brief illness.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Niles, where she was a member of Ladies' Aid and the Altar Guild. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and was a retired employee of Simplicity Pattern Company.

She was born Jan. 3, 1900, in Berrien Center, and lived in Niles all her life.

Surviving are a daughter, Elaine K. Leidy of Niles; two sons, Eugene R. Fender and Richard D. Fender, both of Niles; a brother, Fred Griechen of Lake Wales, Fla.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Leo E. Kostizen of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial is at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles. Friends may call between 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Halbritter Funeral Home. Memorial cotributions[sic] may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

 

 

 

Frazee, Faye W.

Services for Faye W. Frazee, 90, formerly of 718 Regent St., Niles, are Wednesday at 2 p.m. graveside in Silverbrook Cemetery by the Rev. Steven L. Schuneman of Trinity Episcopal Church of Niles.

Mrs. Frazee died Sunday at 9:10 a.m. at Meridian Nursing Center in South Bend, Ind., following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 6, 1898 in Harrison County, Mo. She had lived in the area since 1925, coming here from Chicago.

She was married on Aug. 19, 1922, in Chicago to Carl H. Frazee, who preceded her in death on June 26, 1959.

Survivors include a niece, Charlene Stewart of North Hollywood, Calif.; and two sisters, Elsie Mathiascheck and Goldie Wolcut of Des Moines.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Halbritter Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Niles.

 

Grieger, Clarence W.

Funeral services for Clarence W. Grieger, 66, of 1022 Regent St., will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the Pifer Funeral Home. The Rev. Arlan Schlundt, pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

He died unexpectedly Friday in Bradenton, Fla.

Mr. Grieger, a retired switchtender of the New York Central Railroad, was born Aug. 4, 1899, in Medaryville, Ind. He came to Niles from that city 45 years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Alta; wo daughter, Mrs. Mike Balos, Niles, and Mrs. Cy Bennett, Benton Harbor; a son, Capt. Donald Grieger, serving with the U.S. Air Force at Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Otto, Valparaiso, Ind., and Alfred Medaryville; a sister, Mrs. Lena Walters, Also of Medaryville; and six grandchildren.

Friends are being received at the funeral home.

 

Hamilton, Flora Alice

Funeral services for Mrs. Flora Alice Hamilton, 82, of 820 Cass St., will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Calvary Baptist Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. Theodis Hadley, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

She died at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Berrien General Hospital, Berrien center, following a four-month illness.

Mrs. Hamilton was born March 29, 1883 in Boligee, Ala. She came to Niles from Hollindale, Miss., in 1957. Her husband, Richard, died in 1951.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Jr., Hollindale, and James, Niles; three sisters, Sophia cook, Chaltongo, Tenn., and Mrs. Florence Braggs and Mrs. Anna Wells, both of Boligee; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Pifer Funeral Home, beginning Tuesday.
