Funeral services for Theodore D. "Ted" Schrader, 80, of 1911 S. Third St., Niels, are schedueld afor 2 p.m. Tuesday at Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray C, Cunningham of Niles, the Rev. Raymond S. Anderson of First Baptist Church and the Rev. Kris Johnson of Bertrand Bible Church officiating.

Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Schrader died at 1:55 a.m. Saturday at Berrien General Hospital following an extended illness.

Born Nov. 20, 1912, in South Bend, he was a resident of the area all his life.

In December, 1931, he married the former June Clara Keck, who survives.

He retired in 1973 after 41 years of service at Tyler Refrigeration. He was a charter member and long-time Missionary Treasurer of Bertrand Bible Church.  He was a member and former chaplain of the Tyler Foreman's Club.

Other survivors include two daughters, Lila Coates of Dundee, Ill., and Karen Parker of Smyrna, Tenn.; two sons, Tim Schrader of Niles and T. David Schrader of Niles; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Byrd of Berrien Springs and two brothers, Ed Schrader of Niles and Joe Schrader of Niles.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Halbritter Funeral Home.

GEORGE SCHRUMPF, RAILROADER, DIES

George Wilhelm Schrumpf, 70, life-long resident of Niles, died this morning at 9:15 in his home at 1120 Lake street.

Schrumpf, foreman of a Michigan Central railroad crew, was born here June 12, 1872. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Engineers and of the Pioneers association.

His widow, the former Frances Kaiser to whom he was married in Niles Nov. 18, 1896, survives with two children, Mrs. Milllie E. Bremer and Lawrence Schrumpf, both of Niles.

Rites Thursday

He also leaves three brothers, Henry and Arthur Schrumpf, Niles, and Louis Schrumpf, Edwardsburg; two sisters, Mrs. E.H. Zimmerman, Niles and Mrs. Ora Fidler, Edwardsburg, and two grandsons, William Bremer and Jon L. Schrumpf, Niles.

The body will be taken from the Price and Kiger funeral home to the family home where friends may call Wednesday and Thursday morning. The funeral is set for Thursday afternoon at 2:30 in St. John's Evangelical church. The Rev. Theo Eisen wil officiate, with burial in Silverbrook cemetery.

Charles P. Sheffield

C.P. SHEFFIELD TAKEN BY DEATH

Charles P. Sheffield, 57, 316 South Fourth street, died this morning at 6:45 in the Berrien county hospital after a year's illness.

A former resident of Chicago, where he was born Jan. 3, 1885, he came to Niles with his family in June.  He was employed as a printer.

Surviving with Mrs. Sheffield, the former Edna Lein to whom he was married in St. Louis, Mo., in 1929, are a son, Charles, and a daughter, Margaret, at home, and one brother, Steven Sheffield, Chicago.

Friends may call at the Price and Kiger funeral home where the service will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2.  The Rev. Guy W. Simon, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Edward Stevens

Edward Stevens, Killed by Auto, Buried in Niles

Burial rites for Edward Stevens, 71, former resident of Niles who died Saturday morning in Elkhart General hospital of injuries suffered when he was struck by an car, will be conducted this afternoon at 3 in Silverbrookecemetery[sic].  The funeral is set for 1 (CWT) in the Charles Walley funeral home, Elkhart.

Stevens, who was born in Spring Lake, Mich., March 15, 1871, suffered a compound fracture of each leg and head injuries when struck Thursday morning on US-112 in Elkhart by a car driven by Richard Mellott, 20, Cassopolis.

A resident of Niles many years, Stevens moved to Elkhart 18 years ago at the time of the death of his mother, the late Mrs. Olive Stevens. He had been living in Elkhart with his sister, Mrs. Jessie Lucke.

David Robert Thomas

Funeral services for David Robert Thomas, 35, of 217 Stateline Road, Niles, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pifer-Smith Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Thomas died at 10 a.m. Friday at his home.

Born Sept. 3, 1957, in Berrien Springs, he was a lifetime Michiana area resident.

On May 10, 1984, in Mishawaka, he married the former Mary Santa, who survives.

He was a welder for Central Indiana Hardware in South Bend.

Survivors include a daughter, Christina Marie Thomas, at home; a half-brother, Richard M. Wolf of Elkhart and two half-sisters, Marguerite Percella of California and Marie Thomas of California.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Pifer-Smith Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the David Thomas Children's Fund.

Ivan Gonzalez-Torres, 13 months old, of Niles, passed away at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo on Thursday, June 20, 2013, with his parents by his side.

Ivan was born on May 3, 2012, to Agustin Gonzalez and Maribel Torres in Niles. Ivan and his family were members of New Jerusalem Church in South Bend.

Ivan is survived by his parents and siblings, Vianney, Agustin, Jonatan and Gael Gonzalez.

Funeral services for Ivan will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles at 1:30 p.m. with a time of visitation two hours prior. Pastor Librado Aleman will be officiating.
