"Joe" Wasson Dies Suddenly at Home Today
Clayton "Joe" Wasson, 54, auditor and office manager for the Board of Public Works and former city clerk for nearly five years, died suddenly early today at his home at 552 West Main street.
Wasson, prominent in club circles and well-known in the community, was elected city clerk in April. 1932. He served continuously in that capacity until November, 1936, when he resigned. He joined the BPW that same month.
Wasson was born on Feb. 18, 1898, in Pennville, Ind., He came here 33 years ago from Goshen, Ind., and on Feb. 10, 1921, he married Adele Kehr at the First Presbyterian Church of which he was a member. She survives as does a brother, Claude, of Goshen.
The well-known resident was long active in club activities. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star and the Elks Lodge. He was a past exalted ruler of the Elks, past commander of the Legion post, past master of the Masonic . . .[illegible] . .board of trustees for five years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church with the pastor, the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.
