Vernon Heights Little Girl Fatally Burned
>Gloria May Reid[sic], three -year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reed, South and Jermoe streets, Vernon Heights, died in Epworth hospital in South Bend this morning as the result of being burned yesterday. During the temporary absence of the child's mother from the home, the child with other children was left at the home of its grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Reed, who resides about a block from the home of her son.
While the grandmother thought the child was playing outside with the other children, Gloria wandered to her own home, and soon after was seen by a neighbor toddling down the street, with her clothes ablase. The neighbor, Mrs. Myrtle Brown, extinguished the blaze but the child was already frightfully burned about the body.
There was no fire in the home of the child's parents, and it is thought she set herself afire with matches.
The child's father is employed by O.A. Dever.
