SERVICES FOR SON

    The still-born son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sherman, of rural route six, died at 2:30 p.m Tuesday at Pawating hospital. Committal services were held at 11 a.m. today.
    Also surviving are his maternal and paternal grandfathers, Arthur Sonnenleiter and William Sherman, both of Niles.
    The Rev. G.A. Steeby officiated at the grave-side at Silverbrook cemetery.

    Mrs. Rose Reum, 73, of 602 Cass street, died in her home at 11 a.m. today after an illness of several years.  The attending physician said death was caused by a heart attack or a blood clot on the lung, but probably by a blood clot.
    Mrs. Reum was found early Monday morning in her home, overcome by gas from open jets.
    Born Jan. 19, 1877, in Bertrand, Mrs. Reum was a lifelong resident of this area.  Her husband, John, died Aug. 3, 1936.
    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Paul Malone and Mrs. Derbert Godman, and three sons, Carl, Leo and John, all of Niles.
    Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home, where funeral services will be conducted. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.  Arrangements for the services have not been completed.

REUM RITES SET

    The Rev. L. George Beacock will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Kiger funeral home for Mrs. Rose Reum, 73, of 602 Cass street, who died Tuesday in her home.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.




Livingston, Eldie

Eldie Livingston

    Eldie Livingston, 64, of 419 North Ninth Street, died at 6:55 p.m. Monday in Pawating Hospital.  He had been ill  since Aug. 11.
    Livingston, a veteran of World War I, was born April 10, 1891, in Manchester, Tenn., and came here from Manchester in 1911.  He was employed at National-Standard Company here as a fireman in the boiler room.
    His only survivor is his wife, Autie.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Pifer Funeral Home here with Richard Bonner of the Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Machalleck, Joseph

Joseph Machalleck

    Joseph Machalleck, 67, of 105 North 15th Street, retired New York Central railroad engineer, died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday in the Sunnybrook Nursing Home at Roseland, Ind., following an illness of about seven months.
    Machalleck was born Oct. 25, 1888, in Cassville, Wis., and moved to Niles in 1921 from Michigan City, Ind.  He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers.
    Survivors are his wife, Ella; two sons, John and Robert Machalleck, both of Niles; six grandchildren; a brother, George Machalleck, of Michigan City, and Mrs. Barbara Everett, of Niles.
    Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Pifer Funeral Home here with the Rev. Theodore Laesch, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

    Mrs. Geneva Finley, 86, of 1009 Lake Street, died Tuesday in Albion, Mich. after a two year illness.
    She was born April 16, 1869, in Cass County and came to Niles in 1886.  She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mable Finley Solomon of Albion, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

FINLEY RITES SET

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Kiger Funeral Home for Mrs. Geneva Finley.  The Rev. M.F. Traylor of the Franklin AME Church will officiate.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

COMPOE INFANT

    A son, Douglas Ray, was stillborn to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond W. Compoe, rural route three, Niles, at 2:44 pm. Friday at Pawating Hospital. Beside the parents, a sister, Sandra Ann, survives.  Committal services were conducted this morning at Silverbrook Cemetery by Dr. T.M. Greenhoe, pastor of First Presbyterian Church.

Barkmann, Albert E. Sr.

Albert E. Barkmann, Sr.
July 13, 1875-January 29, 1956


    Albert E. Barkmann Sr., 80, died at 2:30 p.m., Sunday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harold Koenigshof, 1403 Hickory Street, following an extended illness.  His wife preceded him in death.
    Barkmann was born July 13, 1875, in Chicago and came to Niles 30 years ago.  Surviving besides the one daughter are four other daughters, Mrs. Maude Studt, Miss Irene Barkmann and Mrs. Ethel Anderson, all of Niles, and Mrs. J.P. Meyer, of Benton Harbor, three sons, Paul and Albert Jr., both of Niles, and Clarence of Dowagiac, and 15 grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, in the Pifer Funeral Home here with the Rev. Arthur Hubermehl, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren Church In Galien, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.
