Mrs. Eva M. Daley, 68, 231 Bond St., died at 10:35 a.m. today in Pawating Hospital following an illness of only one day.

Mrs. Daley was born May 3, 1892, in Coleman, Tex., and came to this community in 1917 from Chicago. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the order of Eastern Star and White Shrine.

Surviving are: her husband, Bert S. Daley; three children, Mrs. Jack Eberhard, South Bend, Robert Daley, Albuquerque, N. Mex., and Lyle Daley, Santa Fe, N. M.; six grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Hubler, Niles.

Friends will be received at the Kiger and Halbritter Funeral Home here beginning Wednesday evening. Arrangements for memorial services are incomplete.

DALEY RITES SET

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Eva M. Daley, 68, 231 Bond St., who died Tuesday morning in Pawating Hospital. The pastor, the Rev. John P. MacLachlan, will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Kiger and Halbritter Funeral Home beginning this evening.

Graveside funeral services for Freida C. East, 91, of 911 S. Third St., Niles, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Silverbrook Cemetery with the Rev. Arnold O. Schaap of Edwardsburg officiating.

Burial will follow at the cemetery.

East died at 1 p.m. at Pawating Hospital following an extended illness.

Born Aug. 17, 1900, in Williamsville, Mich., she moved to Niles in 1921, coming from Youngstown, Ohio.

On Nov. 11, 1916, in St. Joseph, she married the late Eugene East, who preceded her in death on July 26, 1984.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Vivian Bolton of Niles; two sons, John R. East of Niles and Michael D. East of Bridgman; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Halbritter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Augusta M. Finn, 80, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. Russell Ramsby, 9 N. 13th St., where she had made her home. She had been in failing health for the past six months.

Mrs. Finn was born Jan 17, 1880, in Elkhart, Ind., and came to Niles 16 years ago from New York City.

Surviving besides her daughter are: two grandsons, Gale R. Ramsby, Detroit, and Pfc Richard A. Ramsby, with the United States Marines on Okinawa; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Krumpetz, Elkhart, Ind., and a sister, Miss Hazel Krumpetz, also Elkhart.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Kiger and Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. John P. MacLachlan, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends are being received at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carrie M. Lorensen, 80, 341 S. 4th St., died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday in her home following an illness of six months.

Mrs. Lorensen was born Feb. 16, 1880, in Niles and had lived her entire life in this community. She was a member of the Lady Elks and the Auxiliary to the American Legion.

Surviving are: her husband, Lawrence; two nieces, Mrs. Francis Shell, St. Joseph, and Miss Annamarie Garlanger, Niles; nephew, Lee Garlanger, Springfield, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Freeda Garlanger, Niles.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Kiger and Halbritter Funeral Home with Dr. Maurice McKean, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Mausoleum.  Friends are being received at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements for Louie “Spike” Abernathie, 94, Silverbrook Manor Nursing Home, are pending at Pifer-Smith Funeral Home.

Abernathie died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Silverbrook Manor following a long illness.

Abernathie was born Feb. 22, 1898, in Illinois.

Graveside funeral services for Louie c. “Spike' Abernathie, 94, of Silverbrook Manor Nursing Home, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Silverbrook Cemetery in the veterans' section.

Military rites will be conducted by the LaRue Messenger American Legion Post 26.

Abernathie died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday following a long illness.

Born Feb. 22, 1898, in Illinois, he lived in Niles for many years.

He worked on the railroad. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World war I,

No funeral services are scheduled for James C. Adams, 66, 923 Hickory St., Niles.

Friends may call at Halbritter Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in South Bend. [sic]

Adams died at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Medical Center in South Bend following a brief illness.

Born Aug. 11, 1926, in Waterloo, Iowa, he lived in Niles since 1958, coming from Plymouth, Ind.

On Aug. 16, 1947, in Plymouth, Ind., he married the Former Beryl Jean Kitch, who survives.

He was retired as marketing manager for National-Standard Co., after 32 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II in the Pacific theater. He was an avid fisherman and woodworker.

Other survivors include two daughters, Nancy Adams of Niles and Marcia Foster of Niles; two sons, Rich Adams of Lansing and Chris Adams of El Segundo, Calif.; four grandchildren; a sister Shirley Carlson of Joliet, Ill., and two brothers, Ron Adams of Chicago and Theron “Bud” Bartholomew of Downer Grove, Ill.

Memorial contributions may be made ot[sic] the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 432 Park Ave., S., New York, N.Y. 10016, or the donor's choice.

Note: Although obit states he was to be buried in South Bend, he is buried in Silverbrook.

Funeral services for Bobbie F. “Bob” Bonner, 65, 1612 Clarendon ave., Niles, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Halbritter Funeral Home with Robert F. Morris of Hodgenville, Ky., officiating.

Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Bonner died at 8 p.m. Sunday at his home following a brief illness.

Born May 9, 1927, in Niles, he was a lifetime resident.

On July 17, 1948, in Niles he married the former Carolyn J. Bare, who survives.

He was a retired employee of the Niles Board of Public works and was a graduate of Niles High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Niles.

Other survivors include two sons, Bob M. Bonner of McMinnville, Tenn., and Scott A. Bonner of Niles; four grandchildren and two brothers, Calvin M. Bonner of Niles and Richard J. Bonner of Manchester, Tenn. A brother Lewis Bonner preceded him in death in 1987.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. To 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Halbritter Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ or the Berrien County Cancer Service.
