Plummer, Adelia B.

Graveside commital services for Adelia B. Plummer, 89, of 1409 Rose Drive, Niles, are 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.

She died at 5:40 p.m. Jan. 18 at River Forest Nursing in Three Rivers following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Plummer was born June 6, 1900, in Chicago.

In May of 1923 she married Elmer Plummer in Niles who preceded her in death Aug. 22, 1987.

Survivors include daughter, Virgina Floyd of Kalamazoo; son, Jack Plummer of Niles; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

No visitation is offered.

Arrangements were made by Pifer-Smith Funeral Home.

 

Postley, Artie

Services for Artie Postley, 85, of 617 Cass Street, Niles, are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. W.L. Daniel of Mount Calvary.

Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

She died at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday at Woodfield Manor in Niles.

Mrs. Postley was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She was born July 99, 1904, in Memphis, Tenn., and had lived in the area since 1972 coming from Chicago.

On Sept. 5, 1944, she married Forest Postley in Chicago, who survives.

Other survivors include a step-son, Charles Postley of Chicago; step-daughters, Cora Smith and Irene Young, both of Chicago; sister Ethel Bobo of Niles; 25 stepgrandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church until the service begins at 11 a.m.

Arrangements were made by Hoven Funeral Home of Buchanan.

 

Probst, Frank X.

Frank X. Probst, 83, of 118 Maple street, died suddenly at 12:30 p.m. .Monday at his home.

Probst, a retied city employe, was born May 23, 1869, in Bavaria, Germany and came here from South Bend 53 years ago. His wife, Caroline, died in June 1952.  Surviving are: five children, George, Joseph, Fred and Raymond, all of Niles, and Mrs. Raymond Claeys, Breman, Ind.; five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Kiger Funeral Home with the Rev. L. George Beacock, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

 

Ramsey, Jess W.

Jess W. Ramsay, 1024 Bailey street, died suddenly at 6:15 p.m. Sunday in his home.

Surviving are his widow, Edith; two sons, Al and Hugh, both of Niles; four grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Sebia Johnson, Thompsonville, Mich., and Mrs. Lena Hoyt, Kalispell, Mont.

Ramsay was born on Feb. 19, 1886, in Grand Traverse County, Mich., and came here from Wyoming 27 years ago. He was fuel foreman for the New York Central Railroad Company.

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. L. George Beacock, Methodist pastor. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

 

Ramsby, Mary F.

Funeral services for Mary F. Ramsby, 90, 9 N. Thirteenth St., Niles, are Monday Dec. 15, at First Presbyterian Church, Niles, by John Thompson of First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Mrs. Ramsby died Thursday at Lakeland Medical Center, Niles, suddenly of natural causes.

She was born Jan. 31, 1907, in Elkhart, Ind., and was a lifetime area resident.

On Sept. 8, 1929, in Elkhart, she married G. Russell Ramsby, who preceded her in death Dec. 31, 1980.

Mrs. Ramsby was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fernwood Botanic Garden, Niles Garden Club, Niles Music Club, and the Cosmopolitan Club.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Gale R. Ramsby of New Haven, Conn., and Richard A. Ramsby of Centreville, Va.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call Sunday, Dec. 14, from 3 until 5 p.m. at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.

Memorial contributions may be made to Berrien County Cancer Service.

Richard Scott Ramsby, 19, of 44 Surray Mall, Slingerlands, New York, died Sunday at Albany Medical Center, Albany, New York, after a brief illness.

He was employed at Phillips Hardware in Albany.

He was born Sept. 6, 1968 in Battle Creek and had lived in Slingerlands since 1981, moving there from Washington, D.C.

Surviving are: his great-grandmother, Elizabeth Dittmar of Niles; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Russel Ramsby and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dittmar, all of Niles; his parents, Richard and Barbara Ramsby of Slingerlands; and four sisters, Shelley Burnett of Santa Ana, California, Deanne Ramsby, Karen Ramsby, and Jennifer Ramsby all at home.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Silverbrook Cemetery with Rev. Arnold O. Schaap officiating.

There will be no visitation. Harlbritter Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

 

Reed, Lillie

Lillie Reed, 86, 251 Cass St., Niles, died Thursday at 7:55 p.m. at Silverbrook Manor following an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 9, 1900 in Lindon, Ind. and lived here since 1943, coming from Indiana. She married Earl Reed June 18, 1921 in Frankfort, Ind. He died Feb. 21, 1952.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired employee of Barlow's Laundry.

Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Sharp of Frankfort and Mary Martin of Niles; two sons, Eddie and Frank, both of Niles; three sisters, Nina Belle Hartley of Anderson, Ind., Edith Cunningham of Alexander, Ind. and Mary Belle Blackwell; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A son, Elmer, died in December, 1980.

Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at the Halbritter Funeral Home, where Rev. Arnold Schaap will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7  to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
