Mrs. Danna M. Crawford, 815 East Main street, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday in Pawating hospital, after a year’s illness.

Surviving are her parents, Mrs. Georgia Kingston and Dan Kingston, one child, Daniel Crawford, at home, and three sisters, Mrs. Ray Starr, of Akron, Oh., and Mrs. Earl Minnear and Mrs. Theodore Wienke, both of Niles.

Mrs. Crawford, who was born on Jan. 13, 1914, in Niles, had lived here all her life.  She had been a telephone operator.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home until noon on Tuesday.  Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe in the First Presbyterian church, and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

French, Samuel

Samuel French, 83, of 224 Parkway, died Friday at 9 p.m. in the Berrien county hospital.

French was born in Kent, England on Jan. 28, 1868, and came here from Illinois 15 years ago.  He was a retired farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine; four children, Mrs. John Tolliver, Henry, William and John, all of Niles; and four grandchildren.  

Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Herbert Meussling officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Hubbard, Sarah A.

Mrs. Sarah A. Hubbard, 65, of rural route three, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at her home after having been ill for the past year.

Mrs. Hubbard was born Oct. 10, 1886, in Pennsylvania.  She married William Hubbard on Oct 13, 1904, in Niles.  She has lived in Niles for 51 years and was a member of the Morris chapel and the WSCS in the church.

She is survived by her husband, William; four children, Mrs. Lorne Snoberger, of Chicago, Mrs. Forest Kime, of Barron Lake, Mrs. Lyle Huffman and Home Hubbard, both of Niles; one sister, Mrs. Caroline Carter, of Benton Harbor; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Kiger funeral home with the Rev. Ralph Pratt, pastor of the Morris chapel, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.  Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home

 

Mansfield, Joseph

Dr. J. Mansfield closed his earthly career at the residence of Asa Hamilton, near this city, on Monday afternoon last, in the 69th year of his age. Dr. Mansfield was born in the state of New York and came to his place in the year 1844; and opened a dental office and was for many years a successful practitioner in his profession. Some years ago he gave up the practice of his profession, and went into the fruit, culture, near Benton Harbor, and remained so engaged until within the past year.  He was very much esteemed by all who knew him. His remains were interred in Silver Brook cemetery on Tuesday last.

Spansail, Mary Irene

Mary Irene Spansail was stillborn at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pawating hospital.  The birth was premature.

Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Spansail, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Spansail and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Milner, all of Niles.

A prayer service was said at 3 p.m. today at Silverbrook cemetery by the Rev. L. George Beacock, Methodist pastor.  The Pifer funeral home had charge of arrangements.

 

Stevens, Gust

Gust Stevens, rural route two, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pawating hospital where he was taken on Oct 30, after he collapsed with a heart attack on a downtown street.

Any relatives are asked to contact the Pifer funeral home where the body has been taken.  Stevens was about 65 years of age, and formerly was employed by the New York Central Railroad company here.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, and will be announced later.
