Farmer, William

William Farmer

The funeral of William Farmer will take place tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock, at the Baptist Church. The members of Frank Graves Post are requested to meet at the G.A.R.  Hall at 9 o'clock sharp, in order to attend the funeral.

 Wm. Farmer, residing on South Third Street, died this morning at 6 o'clock, of blood poisoning, aged 50 years. Deceased leaves a wife and two children, and had just been made an honorary member of the G.A.R. about a week ago. Notice of funeral later.

 W. F. Farmer died Thursday, after a long illness. Mr. Farmer came from New York and lived for a time on a farm east of this city, and less than a year ago moved to town and occupied the Coan house on South Third Street. Mr. Farmer was a Union soldier, having served in Co. F, of the First New York Calvary. He was a G.A.R. man, belonging to a New York Post until his removal to the West. He was voted a member of Frank  Graves Post at a previous meeting and his funeral was conducted by that Post on Saturday morning last, at 10 o'clock, from his late residence.

 

Garlanger, Ernest E.

Ernest E. Garlanger, 119 South Fifth street, died at noon today in Pawating Hospital. He had been ill for some time.

Surviving are his wife, Freeda; two daughters, Mrs. Francis Shell and Miss Annamarie Garlanger, both of Niles; one son, Leo Garlanger, of Springfield, Ill., and five grandchildren.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1871, in St. Joseph, and came here from St. Joseph when he was one year old. He had been retired about 10 years, and was a harness maker. He was co-owner of the former Johnson and Garlanger leather goods store here.

Garlanger was a member of the First Methodist Church, and served on the board of trustees of the church for a number of years and . .[illegible] , , 

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home starting Saturday, and services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. L.George Beacock, Methodist pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

The family of Ernest E. Garlanger, who died Friday noon, has requested that flowers be ommitted[sic] in response to a wish expressed previously by Garlanger.

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

 

Hart, James

NILES--James Hart, 77, of 911 S. Third St., died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday at Pawating Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 7, 1897 in Atlanta, Ga., and had lived here since 1972, coming from Kalamazoo.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Earlene Oglesby of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Silverbrook Cemetery with the Rev. W.L. Daniel of Mr.[sic] Calvary Baptist Church officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by the Halbritter Funeral Home.

Hemphill, Carl E.

Carl E. Hemphill, 67, of 110 Elm, died at 4 p.m.. Friday in Pawating Hospital. He had been in poor health for some time.

Hemphill was born Oct. 6, 1887, in Belle Center, O., and came here in 1922 from Kenton, O.  He was last employed at the Indiana Lumber Company in South Bend, and was secretary-treasurer of the Carpenters Union of South Bend, Local 1481. His wife preceded him in death.

Surviving are; his mother, Mrs. Laura Taylor, of Lima, Ohio; four daugthers, Mrs. Wallace Campbell, Mrs. Lincoln Gessinger and Mrs. {illegible] and Paula, at home; four sons, Gerald, Richard and Clayton, of Niles, and Ronald, at home; 19 grandchildren, and four brothers, Harry, of Niles, and Guy, Floyd and Roy, all of Lima.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Pifer Funeral  Home here with the Rev. John Kinner, pastor of the First Church of Christ, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

 

 

Hill, Sharrel Sue

Sharrel Sue Hill, born to Mr. and Mrs. Loye Hill, 1450 Jerome street, on Oct. 31, died at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday in Pawating Hospital.

Surviving besides the parents are one brother, Charles, and three sisters, Connie, Dannette and Sharon, all at home.

Committal services were held at 4 p.m. today at Silverbrook Cemetery. The Rev. H.A. Meussling, pastor of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, officiated. Arrangements were made by the Kiger Funeral Home.

 

Hinkle, Vern Rishel

Vern Rishel Hinkle, 645 South St. Joseph Avenue, died at 10:55 a.m. today at Pawating Hospital after a two week illness.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; one son, Theodore Hinkle, of Niles, and three grandchildren. Hinkle was born on Nov. 9, 1889, in St. Joseph county, Mich. and moved to this area when he was a small child. He had lived here all the remainder of his life.

Hinkle operated the filling station at the Michigan Mushroom Plant here for 20 years before becoming a paper maker for the French Paper Mill.

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home starting at 7 p.m. today.  Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later.

Services for Vern Rishel Hinkle, 645 South St. Joseph avenue, who died Friday morning, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Pifer Funeral Home.

The Rev. L. George Beacock, Methodist pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

 

Hipshier, Cleveland

CLEVELAND HIPSHIER  

Cleveland (Happy) Hipshier, 67, of rural route one, retired inspector for the New York Central Railroad, died at 1:45 a.m. today in Pawating hospital. He had been ill two years.  

He was born May 4, 1885, in Indiana and came to Niles 45 years ago. His wife, Margaret, died in June, 1931.  

Survivors include 10 children. Miss Orletta Hipshier, Mrs. Myrtle Shepardson, Mrs. Dorothea Seals, Mrs. Catherine Bowerman, Mrs. Pansy Cleary, Mrs. Betsy Vandygriff, Mrs. Irene Leamon. Happy Hipshier Jr., and Jack, all of Niles, and Mrs. Fentalene Harrell, of Ravenna, Ohio; three brothers, Roscoe, of Niles, Charles, of Grand Rapids, and Lon, of Benton Harbor; a sister, Mrs. Irene Coon, also of Benton Harbor, and 22 grandchildren.  

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday from the Kiger funeral home with the Rev. A. J. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
