NILES – Hermon DeShazer, 72, of 1102 N. Eighth St., died at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Pawating Hospital after an illness of six days.

A member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and a past master of the John W. Moore Masonic Lodge, he retired in 1968 from the Clark Equipment Corp.

He was born May 19, 1903 in Pine Bluff, Ark., and had lived here since 1941, coming from Mississippi. In August of 1960, in Niles, he married the former Martha Rushing, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Anzie of Hollindale, Miss.; four stepsons, Johnny Cotton of St. Louis, Mo.,; Curtis Cotton of Joliet, Ill., Charles Tucker of Tucson, Ariz., and Lucious Rushong of Los Angeles; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Mae Maxwell of Niles and Mrs. Zeolipha Anderson of Memphis, Tenn.; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Pauline of Greenville, Miss., Mrs. Tessie Ganner of Niles, Mrs. Mattie Moore of Chicago, and Mrs. Mary Gearlds of Saginaw; 44 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. W.L. Daniel officiating and Masonic services conducted by the John W. Moore Lodge. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call after noon at the Pifer Chapel of the Swem-Smith Funeral Home where a wake service will be from 7 to 8 p.m Thursday.

NILES-- The names of two survivors of Hermon DeShazer, who died Tuesday, were furnished incorrectly to The Star. They are a son, Lucious Rushing of Los Angeles, Calif., and a step-daughter, Mrs. Tessie Garner of Niles.
