Steven E. Barnes, 72, passed away at 1 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2018, in his home, surrounded by his family.
Steve was born on Sept. 15, 1945, in South Bend, to the late Edwin and Geraldine (Chase) Barnes.

On April 7, 2001, Steve married Kathy (Dumond) she survives along with his children, Jason (Amy) Barnes, and Michael (Stephanie) Barnes; grandchildren, Alexandra Barnes, Quinn Barnes, Alex Barnes, Veronica Carter, and Jeffery Fuller; sister, Beverly (Ray) Wallace; step-sons, John (Elsie) DuMond, Pete (Heidi) Dumond, and Andy (Krissy) Dumond; and step-grandchildren, Alecxis, Spencer, Marisa, and Charlise.
Steve honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a Records Engineer for the City of Niles. Steve and Kathy traveled to all of the lighthouses in the Lower Peninsula, he enjoyed traveling and golfing. He loved spending time with his family and his church family.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, in the 1st Church of God, 33180 US 12 Niles, MI 49120, where family and friends may gather beginning at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Silverbrook Cemetery with Military Honors at a later date. Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Niles is assisting the family with arrangements.
