J. BAUMANN, LONG TIME IN BUSINESS FIELD HERE, DIES
Owner of Riviera Theater and Feed Store Succumbs After Months of Illness
John Baumann, 70, owner of the Riviera theater and for 37 years active in the business and social life of Niles, died late Saturday afternoon in Pawating hospital. Mr. Baumann had been ill for several months, but the illness became serious about three weeks ago.
Mr. Baumann was born in Wilgartsweisen, Germany, Nov. 7, 1864. He came to the United States in 1887, settling in Niles, where he established his residence at the home he occupied at the time of his death, 25 South St. Joseph avenue.
For many years Mr. Baumann had conducted a feed store at 116 East Main street. About 15 years ago, he built the Riviera theater, at 112 North Second street, which in recent years had been under the management of his son-in-law, Gerald Kern.
Mr. Baumann had been a member of St. John's Evangelical church for more than 30 years and was prominent in the activities of the man's society there.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Christina Baumann, three daughters, Katherine, Elenore and Mrs. Gerald Kern, all of Niles; and two sons, Carl, of Denver, Colo., and Herman, at home' also four grandchildren.
Two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Siefert and Mrs. Gottlieb Fritz, live in South Bend; Mrs. Charles Matz, Shellbrook, Canada, and Mrs. Charles Pfeil, in Niles. Fred Baumann, Tuttle, Okla., and Henry Baumann, Niles, are the surviving brothers.
Funeral services will be be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the Price and Kiger Funeral home. The Rev. Theo. Eisen, of St. John's Evangelical church, will officiate. Friends may view the body at the residence, 21 South St. Joseph avenue, from 4 o'clock this afternoon to 10 o'clock Tuesday morning.

BAUMANN RITES HELD
Funeral rites for John Baumann, 70, who died Saturday afternoon at Pawating hospital, were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Price and Kiger funeral home with the Rev. Theo Eisen, pastor of the St. John's Evangelical church, officiating. Interment was in Silverbrook cemetery.
