NILES -- Mrs. LaVerne M. Albright, 80, of Madison Street, died following a brief illness at 8:54 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in Lakeland Hospital, Niles.
She was born on January 21, 1927, in Argyle, Minnesota, to David and Margaret (MacDermott) Parent, and had lived in Niles since 1943, coming from Minnesota. She enjoyed reading novels and knitting, especially slippers for Christmas.
She will be best remembered for her caring of children, both her own children and the neighborhood, often sitting on her back porch to watch and visit.
On October 20, 1945, in South Bend, IN, she was married to Lowell Albright, who preceded her in death on May 16, 1969. She was also preceded in death by a son, David Albright on April 15, 1987; and by sisters, Donna Dahlin and Alice Strahan; and brothers, Walter, Jimmy and Chuck Parent.
Surviving are her children, Beverly Pressnall of South Bend, Kathy (Rich) Moore of Niles, Brenda Albright of Niles and Rich (Marla) Albright of South Bend; longtime companion, Richard Snyder of Niles, and his children, Ken (Norzing) Snyder of Everett, WA, Nancy (Les) Bigelow of Rochester, MN, and Don (Terri) Snyder of Sawyer, MI; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and LaVerne's brother, Ed Parent of Osceola, IN.
The funeral service for LaVerne M. Albright will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the Michiana Christian Embassy, Niles, with Pastor Jeffrey L. Whittaker of the church officiating. Committal services will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles. There will be no public visitation.
Contributions in memory of Mrs. Albright may be made to the Powerhouse Youth Group of Michiana Christian Embassy.
