Edsel Henry York, 89, of Niles, died at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Riveridge Manor in Niles of natural causes.
He was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Niles. He was a lifetime area resident and U.S. Army Air Force veteran (military policeman). He enjoyed fishing and camping; was a Cubs fan; and he was a member of the American Legion Post 26 in Niles.
He married Velda Alene York on July 25, 1942, in Niles. She preceded him in death Dec. 19, 1994.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, George and Addie York, and five brothers: Alvin, Donald, Russell, Chester and Lawrence York.
Edsel is survived by his sons, Gerald (Barbara) York of Niles, David (Laura) York of Niles, Keith (Helen) York of Buchanan, Kenneth (Tressa) York of Niles, Scott (Kathie) York of Niles and Brian (Susan) York of Edwardsburg; daughter, Joanne (Raymond) LaRocco of Panama City Beach, Fla.; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan with the Rev. Dale Moore of Elkhart officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
