CHRIST REUM, 73, TAKEN BY DEATH

 

Christ Reum, 73, who had lived in Niles more than 50 years, died Friday night at 10:30 in his home, 1519 North Fifth street. He had been ill six weeks.

Mr. Reum was a member of the Michigan Central Pioneer association. He retired in 1932 after serving the railroad company for 3[sic] years. Before his retirement he was foreman of track repairs at the terminal.

He was also a member of St. John's Evangelical church and of the Brotherhood.

Born in Germany April 24, 1867, he came to the Untied States when 18 years old. All of his life afterward, except for about one year, was spent in Niles.

He was married in September, 1887, to Miss Minnie Scharfenberg, who survives. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary three years ago.

Beside his wife he leaves eight sons and daughters--William A. Reum, Herman Reum, Mrs. M.E. Yonker, Edward Reum, Mrs. John Jarroch, Niles; Mrs. Lola Scholl, Chicago, Mrs. Larned Williams, Akron, Ohio, and Clyde Reum, South Bend.

He also leaves eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren;

Services will be Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the family home, the Rev. Eisen officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook.

Friends will be received in the family home, 1519 North Fifth street.
