Matthew Stoll, 89, three times mayor of Niles, died at 8:10 a.m. today at his home at 312 North Fourth street after an illness of three years.

Born Oct. 12, 1861 at Ann Arbor, he was the son of David and Flora Weidman Stoll. He was married in 1888 in Grand Rapids to Harriet Leitelt, who died Dec. 9, 1931.

Stoll, a retired furniture manufacturer, came here from Buchanan 56 years ago. He was elected mayor here in 1905 after being alderman of the fourth ward and was re-elected in 1906 and 1908. Stoll was a member of the Knights of Pythias.

Surviving are a son, Arthur F., [illegible] Martha Snaubel, of Ann Arbor. Another son, Charles, died in 1943.

The Rev. T. M. Greenhoe will conduct funeral services at the Kiger funeral home at 2 p.m.  Monday.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
