Self Inflicted Shotgun Wounds Fatal to Woman
A verdict of suicide was given today in the death of Mrs. Lillian K. Benning, 49, of 219 1/2 Front street, who died Thursday afternoon at the Benning cottage at Indian Lake.
According to Cass county Coroner William Lyman, Mrs. Benning had been in ill health for some time. She was found by her husband who had been visiting neighbors.
The coroner's report stated that she died instantly of a self-inflicted shotgun wound about 4 p.m., half an hour before the body was found.
Survivors are her husband, Harry; a son, Bernard F. Benning, Clearwater, Fla.; a grandson; and four brothers and sisters, Mrs. George Fries, 205 South St. Joseph avenue; Floyd Larson, 1234 North Tenth street, and Martin Larson and Mrs. Esther Hopkins, both of Logansport, Ind.
Born in North Judson, Ind., April 4 1897, Mrs. Benning came to Niles from Logansport, Ind., in 1922. For several years they have made their home at Indian Lake during the summer.

Benning Rites
Services for Mrs. Lillian K. Benning, who died Thursday night at her summer home at Indian Lake, will be conducted Monday at 9 a.m. from the Pifer funeral home with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Rochford officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
