Hargreaves, Abraham

Abraham Hargreaves
Oct. 21, 1913-Nov. 8, 1951

Abraham Hargreaves, 38, of 521 North Clark Street, Niles, died suddenly at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 1951, at the home of his father, James Hargreaves, 415 North Eighth Street.

Hargreaves was born in Niles on Oct. 21, 1913, and lived here his entire life. He was a former New York Central railroad switchman.

Also surviving are his wife, Alice; four children, Alice, Helen, James and Abraham Jr. all at home; three sisters, Mrs. Gerald George a of Bertrand, Mrs. Earl Lintz and Mrs. Gene L. Bright, both of Niles.

Friends may call at the Kiger Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Homer Steffens officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.

Hardy, Virginia Eloise

Virginia Hardy
March 10, 1920-Jan. 3, 1995

Services for Virginia Eloise Hardy, 74, of 1114 Ferry St., Niles,  who died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 3, 1995, in Pawating Hospital after an illness, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in St. John's United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Halbritter Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mooseheart (Moose International Director General, Mooseheart, IL 60539-1180).

Mrs. Hardy had been employed at 4A Plastics, ElectroVoice Inc., Buchanan, and Tyler Refrigeration Corp. She was born March 10, 1920, in Niles. On June 17, 1944, in Niles, she married Benjamin F. Hardy. He died Oct. 10, 1970. Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Hardy of Niles and Kay Hardy of Katy, Texas; a son, Dennis of Indianapolis; a grandson; two sisters, Bessie Craig of Indianapolis and Peggy Canter of South Bend; and a brother, Carl Dickeson of Niles. She was a member of the church, Fraternal Order of Eagles 2094 and Moose Lodge 450, Buchanan.

Hardy, Lawrence O.

Lawrence O. Hardy

Lawrence O. Hardy, 84, of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., formerly of Niles, died at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 1994, in Savana Cay Manor, Port Saint Lucie. He was born Nov. 18, 1909, in Peru, Ind. On Feb. 8, 1936, he married Eulalia G. McCormick. She survives with a sister, Elmeda Simpkins of Vero Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Hardy, Eulalia G. "Mickey"

Eulalia G. ''Mickey'' Hardy, 80, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., formerly of Niles, died at 9:59 a.m. Thursday , Dec. 7, 1995, in Regency Place Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, after an illness. Mrs. Hardy born Dec. 6, 1915, in Michigan City and lived in Niles most of her life, retiring to Florida in 1979. On Feb. 8, 1936, in Niles, she married Lawrence O. Hardy. He died Feb. 8, 1994. Surviving are a brother, Andrew D. McCormick Jr. of Niles; and several nieces and nephews. She was a charter member of Westminister Presbyterian Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Hansen, Anna (Penner)

Anna Hansen
March 15, 1903-Feb. 22, 1998

Mrs. Anna Hansen, 94, of Woodruff Street, Niles, Mich., died following an extended illness at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, in Niles.

She was born on March 15, 1903, at Mountain Lake, Minn., to Anna (Klassen) and Isaac Penner, and had lived in Niles since 1943, coming from Iowa.

Mrs. Hansen was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Niles. She was a past member of Navy Mothers and World War II Mothers; a member of the Past Presidents Club of World War II Mothers; and was also active in the Cub Scouts as a den mother. Mrs. Hansen loved to crochet and bake cookies, but her real love was for her children and grandchildren.

She married Christ F. Hansen on Feb. 25, 1924, at Mountain Lake, Minn. He preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1963. Mrs. Hansen was also preceded in death by two daughters, Gladys Ray in 1996 and Sharon Hansen in 1962; a son, Harry Hansen in 1945; and by a brother and two sisters.

She is survived by six sons, Christ Hansen of Berrien Springs, Mich., Jerry Hansen of Dennison, Texas, Gene Hansen of Niles, Donald Hansen of Seaford, Dela., Jan Hansen of Richmond, Va., and Lonnie Hansen of Cypress, Calif.; three daughters, Yetive Carr of Cassopolis, Mich., Joy Nichols of Niles and Vicki Bliss of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and by four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Niles, with the Rev. Robert M. Zagore of the church officiating. Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

The family received friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Halbritter Funeral Home.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. Hansen may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Patricia Delores Hankins, 80, of 680 Platt St., Niles, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001,in Lakeland Medical Center, Niles, after an illness. Survivors include three daughters, Gracie Ritter of Niles, Irene Moulds of Buchanan and Mary A. Swartz of South Bend; two sons, Roscoe and Wayne, both of Niles; and a brother, Russell Swanson of Edwardsburg. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Halbritter Funeral Home, where friends may call two hours before services.

John W. Hancock

John W. Hancock, 78, of 2214 Kathryn St., Niles, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999,  in his home. Survivors include his wife, Ruth B.L. (Domke); three sisters, Virginia Mady of South Bend, Jean Shaffer of Berrien Center and Evelyn Jeffries of Reed City, Mich.; and a brother, Clarence ''Butch'' of Edwardsburg. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Halbritter Funeral Home. He was born Feb. 13, 1921.
