Raymond T. Marks, 65, of 1015 N. 8th St., died at 2:45 p.m., Friday in Pawating Hospital, where he had been a patient a day.

Mr. Marks was born July 15, 1901, in Jalapa, Ind. and lived most of his lifetime in this community.

Survivors include his wife, Helen L.; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Elrod and Mrs. Robert Holmes, both of Niles; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the Pifer Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Whiteford, pastor of the Fulkerson Park Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Pifer Funeral Home after noon Sunday.

 

White, Mae Florence

Funeral services for Mae Florence White, 89, of 1404 Mould Ave., will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday in the Pifer Funeral Home.  The Rev. E.G. Kolenda, pastor of the Faith Tabernacle, Mishawaka, will officiate.

Miss White died at 3:10 p.m., Sunday in Berrien General Hospital, Berrien Center, where she had been a patient since August, 1965.

She was born March 29, 1877, in St. Joseph, and came to Niles from Benton Harbor three years ago.

Surviving are a half-brother, Dan Copeland, Benton Harbor; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the funeral home after 4 p.m., Tuesday.

 

 

Ranft, Herman L.

Herman L. Ranft, 52, 0f 715 Brown Street, retired Niles businessman, died at 3 p.m. Monday on arrival at Pawating Hospital.

Mr. Ranft, who had been [in] the trucking business for

30 years in the city, was born Aug. 23, 1905, in Niles. He was the former owner of the B. & R. Trucking firm. He was a member of the Niles Elks Lodge, St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Niles Fraternal Order of Police.

Surviving are his widow, Helen; two sons, Robert Ranft, of Niles, and Richard Ranft, of Big Rapids, Mich.; three grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. William F. Woods and Mrs. James Lewellen, both of Niles.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m.  Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the pastor, the Rev. Cletus Rose, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Pifer Funeral Home here where friends may call.

 

Hendricks, Joseph L.

Joseph L. Hendricks, 37, 0f 1425 Maple Street, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday in Pawating Hospital following an illness of one week.

Mr. Hendricks, a veteran of World War II, was born Feb. 8, 1921, in McMinnville, Tenn., and came to this community 12 years ago. He was an employe at Tyler Refrigeration Corp.

Surviving are: his father, Richard Hendricks, of Smithville, Tenn.; his wife, Maude; two children, Melva Jean and Joseph L., Jr., both at home; three brothers, Arthur Hendricks of McMinnville, Tenn., Smith Hendricks, of Evansville, Ind.  and Willie Hendricks, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and three sisters, Mrs. Lottie Wilson, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Celia Mai Swan and Mrs. Lean Blatten, both of McMinnville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Pifer Funeral Home here with Mr. Charles Jones of the Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

 

Timm, Ernest

Ernest Timm, 78, of 1720 North 11th Street, died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday in Pawating Hospital where he had been a patient since March 23.  He had been in poor health for the past three years.
Mr. Timm, a retired tool and die maker, was born Feb. 26, 1880, in Niles and had lived in Lansing and Detroit prior to returning to the city 25 years ago to make his home.
Surviving are: his wife, Doris; a step-brother, George Wedel, of DeWitt, Mich., and two step-sisters, Mrs. Mollie Bogardus, of Vandercoog Lake, Mich., and Mrs. Zelaga Anderson, of Elkhart, Ind.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Kiger-Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Herbert Meussling, pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ (Evangelical and Reformed), of which he was a member, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

Nieb, Ida C.

Mrs. Ida Nieb, 80, lifetime resident of this community and native of Berrien County, died at 7 a.m today in her home on 308 Woodruff street.

Mrs. Nieb was born Feb. 21 1878, in Berrien County. her husband, Daniel Nieb, preceded her in death . Surviving are: two sons, Harold Nieb, of Niles, and Lester Nieb, of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Friends may call beginning Tuesday evening at the Pifer Funeral Home here where arrangements are incomplete.

Nieb Rites Set

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Evangelical United Brethren Church here for Mrs. Ida Nieb, 80, lifetime resident of this community who died Monday morning in her home on 308 Woodruff Street. The pastor, the Rev. Gordon Everett, will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home until noon Thursday.

Morehouse, Hattie

Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Hattie Morehouse, 89, of Lansing,Ill., formerly of Niles, Wednesday afternoon in a convalescent home at Lansing following an extended period of illness.

Mrs. Morehouse was born Sept. 29, 1868, in Berrien County and had lived for a number of years in Illinois, moving here from Niles.

Surviving are a brother George Bowerman, of Niles; a sister, and several nieces and nephews. Her husband preceded her in death about 13 years ago.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon in Lansing, and burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery here.
