Mrs. Mary Ellen Evers, 65, of 919 North Fourth street, died at 1 a.m. today in her home after a two weeks' illness

Born Nov. 27, 1884, in Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Evers came to Niles in 1918 from Chicago.  Her husband, Frank, died in 1941. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters, Order of the Eastern Star, and Mothers of World War II.

Surviving are five sons, Robert Burch, Norman Burch, George Burch and Gordon Burch, all of Niles, and Charles Burch, of Prescott, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Clifford Stanley, of Niles; a brother, C.H. Innis, and two sisters, Miss Ada Innis and Mrs. Lottie Townsend, all of Chicago.

Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home, where the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe will conduct services at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pifer funeral home for Mrs. Katherine Elizabeth Klann, 76, of rural route five, South Bend, who died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the South Bend Osteopathic hospital. The Rev. Percy D. Jones, rector of Trinity Episcopal church, will officiate, and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

[illegible] . ing children: Mrs. Eva Brethouer, Saginaw; Mrs. Claude Pennington, Elkhart, Ind., Mrs. John Bender, Niles; Fred Ginder, Saginaw; two brothers, Fred and Henry Ruff, of Greeley, Colo., 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Warren D. Robbins, 57, will be held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Turner and Pifer funeral home. The Rev. C.J. Harpold will officiate, with burial in Silverbrook cemetery. Mr. Robbins, a carpenter  for the Michigan Mushroom company, died Friday morning in his home, 459 Monroe street.

Burton T. Sherman, 76, of Valparaiso, Ind., died at 7:30 a.m. today at the home of his sister, Mrs. J.A. Holland, of rural route four. He had been ill for three months.

He was born June 2, 1874, in Franklin county, Ind.,and came here from Valparaiso May 1. He was a painter and decorator and a member of the Christian church.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Austin Brooks, of Chesterton, Ind., and Mrs. H.E. McIntyre,  of Romeo, Mich., and a brother, Levi P., of Paw Paw.

Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home where the Rev. Donald Ford will conduct services at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Mrs. M.E. Sherwood, 67, Ill 10 Years, Claimed by Death

 

Death at 8:30 o'clock this morning terminated the 10-year illness of Mrs. Mary Ellen Sherwood, 67, in her home at 48 Marmont street.

She was the widow of the late Charles Sherwood, and had lived in Niles 17 years after moving from Berrien Springs. Mrs. Sherwood was a daughter of Perry and Mary Barmore and was born in Buchanan, Oct. 13, 1870.

Survivors are two daughters and a son--Mrs. Cora Davis and Mrs. Nora Dayhuff, Niles and Edward Sherwood, at home.

Service arrangements are incomplete. The body is in the Rutherford funeral home.

Brenda Joyce McGregor, 60, of Oak Street in Niles, died at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles of an extended illness.

“Miss Brenda,” as she was known to all, was born Aug. 16, 1951, in York, Pa., to Edward and Olga (Tompos) McGregor. Miss Brenda was a member of Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church. She loved God and church.

She is survived by her significant other, Bill Mead, of Niles; her daughter, Betti Joe Osler, of Mishawaka; her son, Larry Landrum, of New Mexico; grandchildren, Michael, Livia, Joshua, Travis and Alaina; great-granddaughter; her sister, Jackie (Edward) Cornelis, of North Liberty, Ind.; and two brothers, Sammy McGregor and Mike McGregor, of Topeka, Kan.

Funeral services for Brenda Joyce McGregor will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Walton Williams, of the church, officiating.  The family will receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the serviced Friday at the church. Arrangements were made by Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Miss Brenda may be made to Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Dexter Allen Wade Sr., 70, of Niles, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at his home of natural causes.

He was born June 27, 1942. He was a manufacturing crane operator and loved playing horseshoes, fishing, bowling and softball.

He married Marlene (Hatcher) Wade on April 23, 2011, in Niles. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ruth Wade; brothers, Clifford Thompson Jr. and Andrew Wade; and sisters, Cletha Dungey, Cheryl Sue Swift and Rita Berry.

Dexter is survived by his wife, Marlene; sons, Dexter (Lenna) Wade Jr., of South Bend, Kenneth Wade, of South Bend, Adrian Wade, of Indianapolis, and Shawn Moffitt, of Niles; daughters, Sheila (Sam Perry) Wade, of Niles, Perrette (Tony) Phillips, of Indianapolis, and Dekkia (Dimitry) Bernard, of Indianapolis; stepdaughter, Cherie Taylor, of South Bend; brothers, Mitchell Thompson, of Buchanan, and Richard Wade, of Niles; sister, Ruth (Henry) Mayo, of Buchanan; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Bethel Apostolic Tabernacle, Buchanan. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
