Marjorie L. Mayhew

Marjorie L. Mayhew, 81, formerly of the 68000 block of Lake Street, Edwardsburg, Mich., now a resident of 75 Academy Dr., Candler, N.C., died Monday morning at 6 a.m., Jan. 25, 1999, in Mission Hospital of Asheville, where she was a patient for 5 days.
Mrs. Mayhew was born on June 24, 1917, in Erie, Pa., the daughter of Dr. Roy Edwin Patton and Jessie A. Patton. She had lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, Washington, D.C., California and Florida before coming to Edwardsburg in 1983. She moved to Candler in 1988.
As Marjorie L. Patton, she was married on Dec. 17, 1939 in Cincinnati to James M. Mayhew, who died on April 2, 1988 in Edwardsburg.
Surviving are three daughters, Judith Ann Briley of Atascadero, Calif., Janice Lucille Sewell of Evansville, Ind., and Sandra Lynn Wright of Candler, N.C. There are seven grandchildren, who are: James and Byron Briley, Dr. Geoffrey Sewell and Gregory and Gary Sewell, Aimee Patterson and Stacee Wright. There are three great-grandchildren, who are Hunter, Zachery and Mason Sewell. There are two brothers-in-law, Paul Mayhew of Edwardsburg and S. David Mayhew of Scottsville,Ky.
One brother, Dr. Lee Emerson Patton and two sisters, Anna Mae Rice and Dorothy Carr are all deceased.
Mrs. Mayhew was a member of the Pisgah Academy, Candler, N.C., and Seventh Day Adventist Church. She worked as an office secretary in Lancaster, Calif., for her brother, Dr. Patton's Medical Office for many years.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, in Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, Mich.
Friends are being received at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday and one hour before services on Friday.
