Opal Fay Hatcher, born on the serene summer day of July 8, 1947, in Niles, Michigan, graced this earth with her gentle presence for seventy-eight years before peacefully drawing her last breath in the same beloved town on July 13, 2025.

Daughter of Harold Hatcher and Opal May Hatcher, both of whom predeceased her, Opal carried the essence of her parents' loving guidance and wisdom in every step. Cherished mother to Stacey and Dorian, and lovingly remembered by her son Markus Hatcher who preceded her in death, she instilled in her children the same unwavering strength and kindness she embodied. Opal's nurturing spirit will forever thrive in the hearts of her cherished progeny.

Though the family tree experienced the loss of branches with the passing of her dear siblings, Marvine Nicks, Carolyn Boatright, and grandchild Dorian Jr., Opal's memory lives on through her surviving brothers and sisters. She is survived by Geraldine Hatcher, Janet Sue White, Harold Hatcher Jr., Deborah Grady, Donna Coleman, Ramona (Arthur) Jones, Michael Hatcher. Lisa Hatcher, Tracey (Cris) Hatcher, Teria Ellis, and Tera Ellis. Each sibling’s life tells a story interwoven with Opal’s enduring love and camaraderie.

She is also survived by her grandchildren; Lavar (Nicole), Shaneika, Mahoganie (Daniel), Marquel, Sade’, Marcus, Marshena, Da’Quan, Darrien, Lanisha, La’Queshya, Dornisha, Ken’Trell, Jai’Marion, and great-grandchildren; Miracle, Jakai, Joilyn, Jazlyn, Silver, Isrel, Shamaya, Azylea, Le’Aysiaa, Robert Jr., Kamylah, Ki’Aire, Avy, Kyon, Kiyoni.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM till 12:00 PM on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Services for Opal Hatcher will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Tracy Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery at 03:00 PM.

A luncheon will be held following burial at The Niles F.O.P. Lodge #51, 531 N. State in Niles, MI 49120.

Her life expressed the fullness of joy through subtle acts and grand gestures alike; every person who had the honor of knowing Opal can recount moments of abiding warmth and unassuming wisdom. She was a beacon of hope, a pillar within her community, offering herself as a testament to the power of faith and family.
