Obituary of Dorothy Jewell Moore

Dorothy Jewell (Williams) Moore, 79, of Sioux City, Iowa and formerly of Niles, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

Dorothy was born on May 23, 1943, to the late MC Williams and Dennell (Morgan) Reed in Niles, Michigan.

Dorothy was a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked in the home health care field for over 30 years.  She had a servant’s heart. Dorothy always served the leadership at her church, loved being an altar worker, armor bearer, greeter, and anywhere there was a gap she would happily fill it.  Dorothy will be remembered by most as a patient, caring, and loving person; she will always be remembered for her famous sweet potato pies.  Her children will remember her as not only their mother but as all of their best friend, her grandchildren will remember her as their loving grandma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Anthony Moore; and siblings, McCullen Williams, Martha Miller, Ruth Williams, Cheryl Singleton, and Vernon Williams.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Serenia Williams of South Bend; Carol Lipsey of Sioux City, Iowa; Helen (Eric) West of Indianapolis, Indiana; and  Richard (Leonina) Griffin of Niles; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Janice (James) Hall of South Bend; close friend of the family, Fredonia Jordan; and many other family and friends.

Homegoing services to honor and celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles at 1:00 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior. Pastor Nick Hardrict will be officiating. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Silverbrook Cemetery near her son, Anthony.
