Mitchell, Steven R. 1954-2021

Steve Mitchell, 66, of Niles, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center from cancer. He was born on December 14, 1954, in Niles Michigan, to Stanley and Barbara (Brockway) Mitchell. Steve graduated from Niles High School in 1973; he went on to attend and graduate with his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Western Michigan University in 1978. Steve went to work for CTS Corporation in Elkhart, IN soon after graduation as an automotive engineer. He retired in December 2019 after 40 years of service. Steve enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was fishing, boating, biking, shooting his pistol, or hiking. He was an avid MSU football and basketball fan. Steve relished eating whatever seasonal fruit pie that was available and made by his wife Sandy. He married the love of his life, Sandra “Sandy” Amick, on August 9, 1975, his most treasured moments were spent with his wife, children, and beloved granddaughter. Steve is survived by his father, Stanley Mitchell of Niles; his wife, Sandy Mitchell of Niles; son, Dan Mitchell of Niles; daughter, Abby (Niko) Burnell of East Lansing; grand-daughter, Adelyn Mitchell of Niles; and brother, Greg (Vickie) Mitchell of Niles. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Mitchell. Family and friends will gather at Brown Funeral Home, 521 E. Main St. in Niles, on Friday, August 6th, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM for a time of visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Brown Funeral Home, with a time of visitation being held one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions in his memory may be directed to the Bend of the River Conservation Club, or to Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy.
