Lester Young, 74, of Niles, passed away at Center for Hospice in South Bend on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Lester was born in Niles, Michigan, on May 6, 1945, to the late Ralph and Elizabeth Young. Lester, with his twin brother Lyle, was the youngest of the nine Young children. On August 7, 1971, Lester married the love of his life, Leota Young, at a ceremony in St. John’s United Church of Christ. They enjoyed over 48 years together. After graduating high school, Lester joined the Army, where he proudly defended his country in the Vietnam War. When he returned home, he began working in the maintenance department of various local factories. Lester loved fishing and spending time outdoors. In retirement, he enjoyed taking his wife to Bass Pro Shop. In his younger years, Lester spent much time hunting. He could frequently be found in his shop tinkering on cars and various other objects. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jean, Maxine, and Lorraine; brothers, Charles, Bill, John, and Lyle; and two grandchildren, Aisley and Espn. Lester will be remembered by his wife, Leota Young; children, Lester (April) Young of Hobart, Indiana, and Todd (Rita) Young of Niles, Michigan; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Lennon, Addyson, Levi, Cody, Christian, Tyler, Timothy, and Reese; sister, Nila; and many extended family members and close friends. Memorial contributions in Lester’s honor may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Services at 3900 Hollywood Road, St. Joseph, MI 49085. A memorial luncheon will be held on a later date.
