Herman, Richard A.

Richard "Dick" A. Herman, 91, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Hamilton Grove Retirement Community New Carlisle. A native of South Bend, he was born on April 12, 1927. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy. In 1950, Richard married his wife, Geraldine; they raised three sons, Rick, Roddy, and Randy. He was successful in his career most notably working as a chewing gum salesman for American Chicle Company; an Extra board and Steward for Studebaker Automotive South Bend, and a salesman for Orkin. He also enjoyed working with his wife, Geraldine, at the University of Notre Dame Joyce Center. He enjoyed time with family, dancing with his wife and friends, cooking and making wine. He was known for his infectious smile, his big laugh, and his compassionate spirit. Richard will be lovingly remembered by his sons; Richard Herman of Niles, and Rolland Herman of Bremen. Richard will also be forever remembered by his ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his father, Charlie, and his mother, Sophie; by his wife, Geraldine; his son, Randall (Randy) Herman; brother, Robert Herman; and his sisters, Geraldine Lynch and Hilda Kloski. Richard is also preceded in death by his second wife, Dora Beard. He was also proceeded in death by many life time friends, Richard was loved by many.
