Sister of Montgomery Ward Dies in Detroit; Rites Set Wednesday
The youngest sister of the late Montgomery Ward will be buried in Niles Wednesday afternoon in the family lot beside her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Ward, in Silverbrook cemetery.
Mrs. Carrie Ward brown, 74, who died Monday in Harper hospital, Detroit, was born in Niles and lived here until about 10 years ago when she went to Detroit to live with her daughter, Mrs. V.H. Kendall. The daughter and one sister, Mrs. N.A. Hass, Phoenix, Ariz., are the only surviving relatives.
Mrs. Brown's last visit to Niles was about five years ago when she spent a month or more here at the time of her sister, Mrs. Cora Hammond's serious illness and death.
Lewis F. Brown, her husband, died about 18 years ago. After that she lived for about six years in her home on North State street, moving afterward to Detroit.
The body will arrive in Niles Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 (EST) on the Michigan Central. It will be taken from there to Silverbrook cemetery where the Rev. Harry L. Nicholson will read the committal service.
Accompanying Mrs. Kendall and the family to Niles Wednesday will be Mrs. Willard French, Detroit; and Mrs. Kendall's cousin, Wayne Brown, Mt. Clemens.
