LIFELONG RESIDENT OF NILES SUCCUMBS
Mrs. Emma White, 89, Dies After Stroke; Was Oldest Baptist Here

 

Mrs. Emma H. White, 89, a lifelong resident of Niles and vicinity and the oldest member of the First Baptist church, died early this morning at 241 North State street. Mrs. White suffered a paralytic stroke five weeks ago, which terminated in her death today.

Mrs. White was born on a farm one and a half miles west of Niles and had lived there and in Niles all her life. She was the last of a family of 16 children.  Joining the baptist church here when she was 12 years old, she had been a member continuously for 77 years.  She was born February 22, 1846.

Surviving are three nieces.  Mrs. Charles H. Hess, Niles; Mrs. Homer Martin, Kendallville, Ind., and Mrs. Melvin Frane, South Bend, also one nephew,Loren Babcock, Niles.

Friends are asked to call at the residence, 241 North State street. The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Price and Kiger funeral home, the Rev. James F. Goodman, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
