Winogene Carpenter, age 91 of Niles, died on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at The Timbers of Cass County nursing facility following an extended illness.
She was born March 11, 1922, in South Bend to Leo and Flora (Smith) Cusick.
Winogene was a cosmetologist for the former Krajci Drugs in Niles. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Niles and enjoyed oil painting, cake decorating and fishing.
On June 29, 1946 in South Bend she married Leslie R. Carpenter, who preceded her in death in 1995.
Surviving family includes niece Lisa Winquist, four nephews, Stephen Winquist, Timothy Winquist, Roger Cusick and Gary Cusick, great-nieces and great-nephews, sisters-in-law Betty Cusick of Niles and Meta Cusick of Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Leo “Bud” Cusick, Dwayne Cusick and Marjorie Winquist.
The family is gathering privately for services at a later date.
