Walter W. Wagner, 71, of Huntly Road, Niles, died at 2:10 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Niles, with the Rev. Carl Bassett of the church officiating.
Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1934, Benton Harbor to Emil Wagner and Pauline E. Modro.
He had lived in Niles since 1963, coming from Benton Harbor.
He retired in 1998, after 37 years of service with Bendix/Allied Signal.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Niles.
Wagner served in the Army Reserves from 1961-1962, at Fort Lewis in Seattle, Wash. He earned his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan and his masters degree, also in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and sitting by the wood stove. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. Wagner was a kind and caring gentleman, who will be remembered fondly.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for all the love and support they received from his doctors, Dr. Jordan, Dr. Guentert and Dr. Lamb.
On July 2, 1961, at Salem, Ind., he married Linda Mae (Settle) Wagner, who survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Lorry Jo Wagner of Brighton and Angela Joy Wagner of Denver, Colo.; a son Christopher Mark Wagner of Niles; grandsons: Aidan M. Wagner, Micholas W. Wagner and Ian Joseph Wagner; a granddaughter, Olivia Christine Wagner; three sisters, Donna (Ray) Radde, ElizabethJ. Wagner and Helen (Wilbur) Schillinger, all of St. Joseph; several aunts, cousins, nephews and a niece.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Wagner.
Memorials may be made to Fernwood Botanic Gardens, Niles.
