Larry Lamar Reichanadter Sr., 74, of Ontario Road in Niles, died at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 14, 1937, in Niles to Otto and Geraldine (Annis) Reichanadter. Larry was a lifetime area resident. He was the former owner of Brandywine Gulf Service Station in Niles; was employed for 10 years at Bendix; and formerly owned and operated the family business of B & L Machine in Niles. Larry also sold trees from the family Christmas tree farm on Ontario Road.
Mr. Reichanadter was a long-time member of Saint John’s United Church of Christ in Niles, where he served on the building and grounds committee and as an usher. He loved horses and had a passion for helping his grandchildren with 4-H horses. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping and the mountains. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, guiding them through life.
In 1957, in St. Joseph, he married the former Betty Beckman, with whom he celebrated the 55th anniversary of their marriage. Surviving family includes his wife, Betty; their sons, Tim (Sandy) Reichanadter and Larry (Lydia) Reichanadter, both of Niles; their daughters, Terri Ballard, of South Bend, and Maribeth (Brian) Burge, of Niles; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his father-in-law, George Beckman, of Niles; his sisters, Kathy Williams and Barbara (Bob) Williams, both of Niles.
Mr. Reichanadter was preceded in death by his twin sons, Matthew and Mark Reichanadter, son-in-law, Jeff Ballard.
Funeral services for Larry Lamar Reichanadter, Sr. will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, at Saint John’s United Church of Christ in Niles with the Rev. Harry L. Clark of the church officiating.
Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions for Larry may be made to the Saint John’s United Church of Christ or the American Diabetes Association.
