Mrs. Dickson S. (Della N.) Scoffern, 92, former well known Niles resident, died today in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Felix R. Hill, Jacksonville, Fla.
Mrs. Scoffern, who had served as secretary of the Berrien County chapter of the American Red Cross and was secretary of the Niles Library Board at the time the city received the Carnegie endowment, was born May 27, 1867, in Allen the daughter of Nelson and Hester Strang Clark.
She graduated from Greenville, Ill., High School and had attended Greenville College. Before moving from Niles in 1950, she had been active in social and civic activities of the community, where she was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church . . .[illegible] . . .as treasurer of the United Thank Offering of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan.
Her first husband, Edward Baumberger, whom she married on Sept. 21, 1885, in Greenville, preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1896. She later was married to Dickson S. Scoffern, New Carlisle, Ind., banker, who before his death in 1933 had served as president of the Niles City Bank and the First National Bank of Niles.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Pifer Funeral Home with the Rev. John G. Carlton, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. it has been requested by the family that flowers be omitted.
