Nilesite Dies After Shoveling
M.N. Andrewsen Succumbs During Night
Niles police said snow shoveling apparently was a contributing factor in the death early today of Mortz Niles Andrewsen, 51, of 1020 N. 16th St.
Andrewsen, a retired Navy commander, was pronounced dead on arrival at Pawating Hospital at 1:20 a.m. His death was apparently due to a heart attack, police said.
MEANWHILE, a new cold wave is expected to send temperatures to 10 degrees below zero here tonight. Frequent snow flurries accompanied by strong northwest winds are forecast. Hazardous driving conditions will prevail with blowing and drifting snow and poor visibility.
Yesterday's snow storm dumped 7 inches of new snow on Niles.
Slippery roads and poor visability[sic] were blamed for 10 traffic accidents in this area yesterday, including four personal injury accidents which injured seven persons.
MRS. ANDREWSEN said her husband had complained of chest pain, after he had shoveled snow from his driveway about 7:30 p.m. yesterday. Police said he had a heart condition and received treatment last August at Great Lakes, Ill., Naval Hospital.
At 12:55 a.m. today, police were summoned to the Andrewsen home when Mrs. Andrewsen reported her husband had slumped over in a chair. Patrolman Lee Spencer gave artificial respiration to the stricken man until an ambulance arrived. Andrewsen was pronounced dead on his arrival at the hospital by Dr. John Strayer.
A salesman for Cutting Tool Inc., South Bend, Andrewsen came to Niles from Elkhart in 1960. He was born Feb. 24, 1911, in Elkhart.
Surviving, in addition to the widow, are two daughters, Diane McConnell, in nurse's training at Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago, and Barbara McConnell, at home; and a sister, Mrs. Helen Schaff, Los Angeles, Calif.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Kiger Funeral Home, where friends are being received.

Funeral services for Mortz Nils Andrewsen, 51, of 1020 N. 16th St., who died of an apparent heart attack after shoveling snow Thursday, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Kiger Funeral Home. The Rev. John G. Carlson . . Episcopal Church will officiate. Full military graveside rites will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery.
