Dr. Hugh Merlin Babbitt

Dr. Hugh Merlin Babbitt, 62, of 113 Hamilton street, Dowagiac, brother of John M. Babbitt, Niles, died at 7:10 a.m. today in Pawating Hospital, where he had been a patient one day. He had been ill a year.
Babbitt was born April 29, 1893, in Clinton, Ia., and moved to Dowagiac 37 years ago. A doctor of osteopathy, he also had lived in Buchanan for four years and in Niles one year. He was a member of the Holy Maternity Catholic Church in Dowagiac, the Elks Lodge in Dowagiac, the American Osteopathic Association and the Michigan State Osteopathic Association.
Besides his brother in Niles, he is survived by another brother, L. Webster Babbitt, of South Bend.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church here with the Rev. Cletus M. Rose officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Kiger Funeral Home here, where friends may call after 7 p.m. today.
