Irven L. Adams
July 27, 1913- Sept. 29, 2009
Irven L. Adams, 96, of North Thirteenth Street, Niles, MI, died at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday in West Wood of Niles, following an extended illness.
Mr. Adams was born on July 27, 1913, in Niles to Clarence and Ruth M. (Singer) Adams. He graduated from Brethren (MI) High School and has lived in Michigan all of his life. Irven was self-employed at A&W Garage at Wayne Street and Thirteenth Street, Niles.
He attended Franklin A.M.E. Church in Niles. He was a member of John W. Moore Lodge #42 F & A.M. He was active in area bowling and golf leagues. Irven was a strong man, and while in high school he was on the State Champion Basketball team.
On October 12, 1936 in South Bend, IN, he first married Cecelia Jean (Williams) Adams who preceded him in death in January of 1973. He later married on January 4, 1975 in Niles, Marguerite (Shepard) Woodford Adams who survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann (Myron) Frasier of Southfield, MI; grandchildren, Michael Frasier, Myron "Ron" Fraiser, Michele Frasier Wing, Marie Embry and Christopher Clark; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, Travis, Brandon, Jason, Jordan, Jacob and Cecelia; and two stepsons, Larry and Brian Woodford, both of Reno, NV.
Mr. Adams was also preceded in death by his daughter, Karen E. Adams Clark who died September 3, 1997; a son, Richard Adams who died in 1999; sisters, Bertha Adams and Corabelle Pompey; and a brother, Clarence Adams.
Services for Irven L. Adams will be held Monday, October 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. in Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Rev. Jared L. Graves Sr. of Franklin A.M.E. Church, Niles, officiating.
Committal will be at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, MI.
The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
