Daniel S. Brooks, Sr.

Daniel S. "Danny": Brooks Sr., 64, of Michigan Street in Niles, MI, died at 1:54 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009 in his home following a brief illness.
He was born on June 14, 1945 in Knoxville, TN, to Mack Arthur and Anna Mae (Owensby) Brooks. He moved to Niles in 1959 from Knoxville and graduated from Brandywine High School. He was formerly employed for 9½ years at Tyler Refrigeration, Niles, four years with Conrail as a foreman, and later at United Store Fixtures, Niles.
Danny was the former president of the Niles Fast Pitch Softball Association. He enjoyed trips to the Blue Chip Casino and the Osceola Drag Strip, racing and restoring cars. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
On August 22, 1964 in Niles, he married the former Linda Sue Allen who preceded him in death on December 6, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his father, Mack A. Brooks; mother, Anna Mae Hurst; sister, Linda Pat Medina and a brother, A.J. Brooks.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his daughters, Kimberly (Mick) Ferrell of Niles and Kelly Sue (Neal) Thomspon of Buchanan, MI; son, Daniel S. "Spinner" Brooks II of Niles; grandchildren, Michael, Keri, Malinda, Rikki and Donaven; great-grandchildren, Kaylynn, Drake, Kaylee and Colt; brother, John Davis and sister, Maxine Brown, both of Knoxville; and special friends, Earl and Ginny Kinne of Georgia.
The funeral service for Daniel S. "Danny" Brooks Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2009 in Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Mr. David Thompson of Church of Christ, Niles officiating.
Interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home.
