Ex-Niles Resident Dies Monday in Dowagiac Hospital

 

Fred S. Bowling, 71, 1463 Clarendon avenue, died at 7 p.m. Monday in the Lee memorial hospital in Dowagiac.  Death was unexpected.

He was born in Dowagiac, Feb. 3, 1874, and had lived in NIles. He moved to Cloverdale about a year ago.

Surviving is a sister, Mrs. William Harness, Kalamazoo; and three nieces and nephews, Mrs. Harold Gould, Cloverdale; Everett Bowling, Buchanan and Walter Bowling, Dowagiac.

Funeral services will be held in the Kiger funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. L.George Beacock officiating.  Burial will be made in Silverbrook cemetery.

Whalen, Daisy I.

Funeral services for Daisy I. Whalen, 85, of 1401 Sheffield Ave., Niles, are Saturday at 10 a.m. at Fulkerson Park Baptist Church in Niles Township by the Rev. Ed. Villalba, pastor of the church.

Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

Mrs. Whalen died Wednesday at 11:40 a.m at Pawating Hospital in Niles, following a brief illness.

Born July 8, 1904, in Franklin, Penn., she lived in the Niles area since 1953, coming here from Richmond, Ind.

She was a member of the Fulkerson Park Baptist Church and retired in 1969 from the J.C. Penney Co.

On March 28, 1931, in Norristown, Penn., she married Paul E. Whalen, who survives.

Other survivors includes[sic] a sons[sic], Donald E. Whalen of Niles; four daughters, Marie A. Jameson of New Carlisle, Ind., Pauline A. Jackson of McDonough, Ga., Jeanne I. Whalen and Susan A. Hibbard, both of Niles; three sisters, Glenna Murphy of Sewickley, Penn., Grace Diffenbacher of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Virginia Donaldson of Grove City, Penn; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A son, Paul D. Whalen, preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1979.

Friends may call at Halbritter Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Niles, from 2 to 4  and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

DEATH TODAY OF CHAS. CRANSON

Death Occurs After a Few Days' Illness with Pneumonia;

Funeral Services Will Be Held on Monday


Charles Cranson, a well known and highly respected resident of Niles died this morning at 1:30 o'clock at his home on East Oak street, after about a week's illness with pneumonia.
The deceased was 68 years of age.  He was born in New York state, but came to Michigan when very young.  He was married to Mrs. Emma Conrad Whitmore in Niles about 25 years ago.  Two sons were born to them, Lester Cranson; who is in training at Fort Sill, Okla., and Leon Cranson, who resides at home.  The former and also Earl Whitmore, a son of Mrs. Cranson by a former marriage, are in the city on account of their father's death.
Besides the widow and sons, Mr. Cranson is survived by two brothers, George Cranson of Niles and Arthur Cranson, who resides south of the city.  Their only sister, Mrs. Elmer Butts, died a few weeks ago as the result of an automobile accident.
The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the house.

CHARLES CRANSTON DIED THIS MORNING


Charles Cranston, for the past 60 years, a resident of Niles, died at his home, East Oak street, at 1 o'clock this morning after a week's illness from pneumonia.
Deceased, who was born in New York state 68 years ago, came to Michigan when a small boy. Twenty five or more years ago he was married to Miss Emma Conrad, and unto this marriage two sons, Lester and Leon Cranston, both residents of Niles, were born.
Besides his wife is is survived by the two sons and two brothers, George and Arthur Cranston of this city.  A sister, Mrs. Elmer Butts, died a few weeks ago as the result of an auto accident.
The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W.H. Phelps officiating, with burial in Silverbrook cemetery.

Memorial services for Richard Clayton Cannady, 59, Niles, will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at the Mount Calvery Baptist Church, 601 Ferry Street, Niles.
Cannady died 6 a.m. Wednesday in South Bend following a lengthy illness.  He is survived by many relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of St. Joseph County.

Marta Cannady, 6, Dies; Rites Set for Monday

Marta Mae Cannady, 6, daughter of Mrs. Allene Cannady, 1101 Ferry street, and Harold Cannady, Detroit, died at her home here this morning at 7:40 after an illness of two weeks.
Beside her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Nancy, Washington, D.C., and Delores; two brothers, Eugene and Clayton, all at home.
The body will be taken from the Pifer funeral home to the home, Sunday morning, where friends may call until noon Monday. Private services will be conducted at 2 Monday afternoon in the Pifer funeral home by the Rev. Floyd Johnston.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Set Cannady Infant Funeral for Monday

Funeral services for Leatha Allene Cannady, 9 month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cannady, will be held Monday afternoon from the Troost and Turner funeral home.  Elder G. B. Rowe, Mishawaka, Ind., will officiate, and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
The child died Friday afternoon in Pawating hospital after a brief illness.  Besides the parents, she is survived by a sister, Nancy, and two brothers, Eugene and Clayton.

Mrs. Cannady, 44, Dies Today at Pawating Hospital

 

Mrs. Allene Cannady, 44, 1001 Ferry street, died at 5:30 a.m. today in Pawating hospital. She had been ill since Tuesday.

Mrs. Cannady was born in Niles, Oct. 9, 1901, and has lived here all her life. She is the daughter of Schuyler Finley, 815 Sycamore street.

Surviving in addition to her father, is her stepmother, four children, Nancy, New York, N.Y.; Eugene, Niles; Delores, Niles, Clayton, Niles; and a brother and sister, Mrs. Percy Gay, Niles; Harold Finley, Niles, and a half-brother, Oscar Curtis, Kankakee, Ill.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral Wednesday for Mrs. Allene Cannady, 44

Funeral rites will be held at 4 p.m.  Wednesday in the chapel of the Pifer funeral home for Mrs. Allene Cannady, 44, 1001 Ferry Ferry[sic] street, who died Monday in Pawating hospital.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery with the Rev. Alexander, Second Baptist church officiating.
