Irl S. Cox, of M-60 east, died at 8:45 a.m. today in Pawating hospital, after an illness of one week.

He is survived by his widow, Tillie. Cox was born on June 14, [words missing] here from Chicago, one year ago. He was a carpenter by trade, and was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Odd Fellows of Chicago.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

COX RITES SET

The Rev. Lawrence Stauss, of the First Evangelical United Brethren church, of Chicago, will conduct services at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pifer funeral home for Irl S. Cox, 55, who died Wednesday morning. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Fink, Dorothea M.

Mrs. Dorothea M. Fink, of 631 North Sixth street, died at 4:10 a.m. Sunday in the Allegan Health center. She had been in poor health for some time.

Surviving are: her husband, Elba, of Niles; one son, T/Sgt. Mervin Fink, of the air corps, stationed at San Bernardino, Cal.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Kesterson, of Boulder City, Nev., and a brother, Alfred Oberweiser, of Chicago.

Mrs. Fink was born on Feb. 16, 1885, in Mensha, Wis., and came to Niles from there in 1904.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home until noon on Wednesday, when the body will be moved to the First Presbyterian church.  Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church by the pastor, the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Gorton, Nancy Jean (Toney)

Mrs. Eugene Gorton, 24, of 1102 North Seventh street, died Monday at 4:25 p.m. in Pawating hospital.  Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m from the Presbyterian church with the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe officiating.

Burial will be made in Silverbrook cemetery. Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home.

Mrs. Gorton was born Nancy Jean Toney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Toney, in Niles on Aug. 1, 1927. She married Eugene Gorton on Sept. 4, 1950 in this city.

Survivors include the husband and parents; a brother Franklin Toney, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George McClary, all of Niles.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church.

 

Hamilton, Ralph

Ralph Hamilton, of Jackson, formerly of Niles, died Wednesday afternoon at Foote hospital in Jackson. He had been ill only a short time.

Surviving are his widow, Pearl, two daughters, Mrs. Helen Holcomb and Mrs. Norma Zeider, of Niles, and one son, Ralph, Jr., of Jackson; three grandchildren, and three brothers, Roy and Harry, of South Bend, and Ward Hamilton, of Detroit.

Hamilton was born in Berrien county 64 years ago.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home Friday. Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

The Rev. T.M. Greenhoe, Presbyterian pastor, will conduct the 4 p.m. Saturday services for Ralph Hamilton, who died Wednesday afternoon in Jackson.  The services will be held at the Pifer funeral home, and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Mervine, Lillie Mae

Mrs. Lillie Mae Mervine, of rural route two, died at 1 p.m. Monday in her home. She had been ill for six months.

Surviving are her husband, William S. Mervine; and her children, Raymond Moore of Lakeville, Ind., Mrs. Nellie Davis, of Barron lake, Mearl Moore, of Sumnerville, Mrs. Mildred Dean, of South Bend; Cloyd Moore, of Niles, Floyd Moore, of South Bend; and Lester and Chester Mervine, of South Bend.

Also surviving are four brothers, James and Jacob Barnes, of Wabash, Ind., and William and Roy Barnes of Akron, Ind.  Mrs. Mervine was born on March 7, 1884, in Akron, Ind., and came to Niles from Indiana 28 years ago.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home, where services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. H.A. Meussling, pastor of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Munroe, Harry W.

Harry W. Munroe, 74, of 1 Parkway, died Thursday at 1:07 p.m. at his home after an illness of several years.

Munroe was born on Dec. 23, 1877, in Kalamazoo and came here from South Bend 34 years ago.     Surviving are: his wife, Gertrude; three children, Ralph Munroe, of Niles; Willis Munroe, of Kalamazoo; Theodore Munroe, of Kalamazoo; and one sister, Mrs. Edith Rimpler, of Goshen.

Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home until the services there at 3:30 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Theodore Eisen officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

All members of the New Century Rebekah lodge are requested to meet a 2:45 p.m. Saturday at the Kiger funeral home to attend 3 p.m. services for Munroe.  The request was made this morning by Mrs. Lawrance Bachman, noble grand.

 

Phillips, Elizabeth

Mrs. Elizabeth Phillips, widow of the late Wm. Phillips, of Bertrand, died on Sunday morning, aged about 73 years. She was buried in Silver Brook cemetery. Mrs. P. has no relatives in this country, but has been in receipt of a large income from property in England. She owned a farm of about 40 acres in Bertrand township and had considerable property besides, and there is no one in this country to see to it.
