August F. Lehrke, 91, of Southfield, formerly of 1408 Oak St., died Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.., in Providence Hospital, Southfield, after a three-day illness.

A retiree of the real estate business, Mr. Lehrke was born in Germany, March 3, 1876. He moved to Niles from Buchanan in 1926.

He is survived by a niece of Detroit.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m., in the Halbritter-Swem Funeral Home with the Rev. John S. Hoenstine of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Thursday.

 

 

 

Linton, Delores R.

Mrs. Delores R. Linton, 56, of 2288 North 5th St., died Tuesday at 6:15 a.m., in Caylor-Nickel Clinic, Bluffton, Ind., after being a patient there for 31 days.

Moving to Niles from South Bend 14 years ago, Mrs. Linton was born in Leon, W. Va., March 12, 1911.

In addition to her husband, Clair L., she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert L. Miller of Alexandria, Va., three grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Paul Martin and Mrs. Clayton Spencer, both of Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. Max Thibault of Delaware, Ohio; and Mrs. Louis Fife of Middleport, Ohio; and three brothers, William Abbott, Denver Abbott and Donald Abbott, all of Columbus.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m., in the Pifer Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Cunningham of the First Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m., today.

 

Lordan, Eugene M.

Funeral services for Eugene M. Lordan, 63, of 1718 Regent St., will be at 2 p.m., Monday in the Pifer Funeral home, with Lowell Jackson, pastor of the First Church of Christ, officiating.

Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Military committal will be conducted by American Legion Post 26.

Friends are being received after 7 p.m., today at the funeral home.

Mr. Lordan died about 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at his home. He was born Aug. 7, 1904, in Detroit and came here from South Bend in 1943.

He was a retired machinist for the Studebaker Corporation in South Bend and a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Lordan is survived by his wife, Edith; a son, Michael E. of California; a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Tallent, Jacksonville, Fla.; three step-children, Mrs. Jane Short, Miami, Fla., Jack Dennis, Simi, Calif.; Mrs. Jane Mathewes, Willoughby, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Risdon, Detroit; Mrs. Grace McMurris, Palmer Lake, Colo.; Blanche Lordan, Detroit; and a brother, Vincent, also of Detroit.

 

Makepeace, Harold E. Sr.

Harold E. Makepeace Sr., 70, of 906 George St., died Friday at 7:05 p.m., in Pawating Hospital where he had been a patient for 11 days.

A retired stockman from Simplicity Pattern Company, Mr. Makepeace was born in Traverse City, Sept. 1, 1897. He moved to this area from there 57 years ago.

In addition to his wife, Lila, he is survived by two sons, Harold Jr. and Norman, both of Niles; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Halton of Toledo, Ohio; Miss Dorothy Makepeace at home; 11 grandchildren and a brother, Ed of Niles.    Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m., in the Pifer Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Cunningham of the First Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Harold E. Makepeace, 70, who died Friday in Pawating Hospital, is survived by two additional daughters, Mrs. Nora Halton of Toledo; and Miss Dorothy Makepeace, at home.

Funeral services for Delores M. Mangold, 60, of 611 S. Lincoln Ave., Niles, are today at 3 p.m. at Halbritter Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Niles, by the Rev. Robert E. Jackson, pastor of the First Church of God.

Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

She died Saturday at 12:22 a.m. at Pawating Hospital, Niles, following an extended illness.

She was a member of the First Church of God and was a retired employee of Woodfield Manor.

Born Dec. 9, 1929, in Mallard, Iowa, she had lived in Niles since 1944.

Survivors include a son, Danny Mangold of Niles; two grandchildren; and a sister, Myrtle Strayer of Iowa.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Halbritter Funeral Home.

 

McLaughlin, Ida J.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ida J. McLaughlin, longtime Niles resident, will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m., in the Pifer Funeral Home. Mr. Gary Johnson, pastor of the Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Mrs. McLaughlin, 83, died Friday night in the Parker Nursing Home, Berrien Springs, after an illness of nine months. She is survived by her sons: Frank, Claude, and Wallace, all of Niles. Four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. McLaughlin was born July 10, 1884 in Coffee County, Tennessee. She married the late Frank H. McLaughlin Jan. 26, 1897 in Tennessee. Mrs. McLaughlin resided in Niles since 1919.

Mrs. McLaughlin was a member of the Church of Christ. Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home.

 

 

 

Nicholson, Adeline M.

Burial in Silverbrook Cemetery will follow last rites Monday at 2 p.m. for Mrs. Adeline M. Nickolson, 62, of 306 Roberts St. She died Friday in South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Born in Chicago in 1905, Mrs. Nickolson has lived in Niles since 1950.

Survivors include her husband, Rodrick; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Harrington and Mrs. Betty James, both of Niles; a son, Robert, living in South Bend; a brother in Los Angeles, a sister in Chicago, five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Friends may visit at the Pifer Funeral Home after 7 o'clock tonight.

The Rev. John Hoenstien of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will conduct the service.
