Ella A. Tibbetts

Miss Ella A. Tibbetts, who was born in Niles 85 years ago, and who, before her retirement from the profession was a widely known teacher, died Sunday morning at 12:45 in Pawating hospital.
Complications resulting from a broken arm which she suffered in a fall at the residence of Mrs. B.D. Giddings, November 9 caused her death. Miss Tibbetts had closed her home on Sycamore street and had been planning to spend the winter at the Giddings home.
Miss Tibbetts had long been prominent in the Presbyterian church here. She had a wide acquaintance through out the state, having taught school in Niles, Dowagiac, Decatur, Ypsilanti and St. Paul, Minn., before her retirement a number of years ago.
She was the youngest and last member of a family of seven daughters. Had she lived until Dec. 16, she would have celebrated her 86th birthday.
A grandniece, Miss Mildred Wood, Joliet, Ill. Has been here since last Thursday, called to Niles by the serious condition of Miss Tibbetts. Mrs. W.L. Hoatson, a niece, arrived Sunday noon from her home in Milwaukee. Both are staying with Mrs. Giddings.
Other relatives who survive are three nephews, Coe Weed, Hammond, Ind.; John Shafer, San Antonio, Texas, and [Illegible] Thomas, Battle Creek.
The Rev. Dr. G.W. Simon will officiate at funeral services to be held in the Presbyterian church, of which she was a lifelong member, Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
Friends are asked to call at the Rutherford funeral home until noon Tuesday. The body will lie in state at the Presbyterian church from noon until the hour of the funeral.

Niles News In Brief: TIBBETTS RITES HELD
Funeral services for Miss Ella A. Tibbetts, who died Sunday morning in Pawating Hospital, were conducted at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon in the Presbyterian church by the Rev. Guy W. Simon. Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery. E.B. Storms, Charles Silsbee, V.N. Taggett, Ray Chappel, Henry Hinkle, and Walter Wood served as pallbearers.

Miss Sophie Sporleder, 78, of Niles township, died this morning at Cutlerville, Mich., following a nine months illness.
Born March 30, 1858, at Eagle lake, Ill., Miss Sporleder moved here ten years ago from Chicago.
She is survived by one sister, Louise Sporleder, Niles.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete but friends may call at the Rutherford funeral home to view the body.

Alfred W. Stock, 60, a lifelong resident of southern Michigan, died in Pawating hospital at 7:30 o'clock Sunday night following an illness extending over a period of several months.
Born in Three Rivers Aug. 27, 1866, Mr. Stock moved to Niles a number of years ago. He is survived by one son, George Stock now living in Jackson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Price and Kiger chapel by the Rev. T.O. Lee of the First Methodist church. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

NILES—Elizabeth E. Tiller, 76, 1413 Maple St., died at 5:20 a.m. Thursday at the Schato Nursing Home after an illness of three years.
Mrs. Tiller was born Aug. 23 1901 in Evanston, Ill., and had lived here since 1967, coming from Chicago. She was a retired real estate broker.
On Nov. 23, 1966, In Chicago, she was married to Austin T. Tiller, who survives.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Pifer Chapel of the Swem-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles E. Wilson officiating. Services will follow a wake service scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Silverbrook Cemetery.
Mrs. Ora K. Moore of Chicago, a step daughter, also survives.
Bertha Tyson

Mrs. Bertha Tyson, 68, of 62 Marmont street, died at 8:15 o'clock this morning at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Tyson has lived in Niles for the past 44 years, having moved here from South Bend.
She was born in Hopewell, N.J., March `19 1868, and was married 46 years ago to George Tyson in Lambertville, N.J.
Beside her husband, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Snowden, Hopewell. Tow children receded her in death.

Niles News In Brief: DEWITT HUNTER DIES
DeWitt Hunter, Grand Rapids, widely known in Niles and vicinity, died at his home Wednesday morning after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Josephine Bohn of Niles, and one sister, Mrs. Florence Van Wormer, Canton, Mich.; three nieces, Mrs. Milton Nichol, Canton, and Mrs. Evelyn Lockard and Miss Vera Schmidt, Niles. Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery Friday.
