Death Claims Philip Friday, Civic Leader
Native of Berrien Long Prominent in Business Circles
Philip B. Friday, prominent in Niles business circles since he came here from Coloma in 1917, died Wednesday afternoon at 3:45 in his home on the Niles-Buchanan road.
Although he had been in ill health several months his condition had been serious but three weeks and his death came as a shock to his many business associates throughout the city.
. . . [illegible] . . .built the building at Second and Sycamore streets, now occupied by the Atlantic and Pacific store, for the Ford agency of which he was the manager.
In Real Estate Business
He continued as an automobile dealer for 10 years and since that time he had been in the real estate business. He had assisted in the development of several sections of the city.
In addition to his business activities he was interested in political and national affairs and in 1926 was a candidate for state senator. Mr. Friday was a charter member of the Rotary club.
A life long resident of Berrien county he was born July 24, 1878 in Coloma the son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Butzbach Friday. He was married in Buchanan Nov. 26, 1902 by the Rev. W.E. Douglas to Mrs. Cora E. Crossman, who survives him.
Leaves Two Stepsons
Other survivors include two stepsons, L.E. Crossman, Olivet, Mich., and Ward Crossman, Jamestown, N.Y.; three brothers, David Friday, Washington, D.C. And George and Jacob Friday, both of Coloma, and a sister, Mrs. Lydia Kuelbes, Bainbridge.
Friends may call at the Rutherford funeral home where services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:30 by the Rev. Guy W. Simon, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
